Any news on the season dates yet? i assume we are starting later for the AFL grand final but does that mean playing a week longer into march?

8th of October is the opening day of the 2011/2012 season depending the usual ground avabality so on etc.

Hopefully we claim that extra week back in March then! With all the washouts we've had over the last couple of seasons you would really not want to shorten the season any further (unless the VTCA execs are plants from soccer (Football Federation Victoria) who want to kill of cricket and take the grounds for a useless 'sport' - tongue in cheek). :p

I suppose the first week of October is normally a washout or sees only 2 pitches ready. Its almost as if clubs/councils don't realise when its time for the season to start! Every season its the same story. Local football ends for most teams at the end of August. :( That gives most grounds 5 weeks (6 weeks this season) to be ready. Then as September progresses less and less football teams require their grounds. Clubs should go to the VTCA and ask them to in future start the fixture when they want it. Don't make everyone keep their weekends free for an event that's not going to happen.:mad::mad:

Who wants to watch Collingwood win another grand final anyway! What happens if Collingwood choke again this year and its another replay? Does that mean we'll call off another week?

In that case, what about all those players that rely on incentive based contracts? Some players rely on the 2 day games for their opportunity for incentives eg a #4 batsman wanting to ton up - its more difficult in the one dayers (or impossible when not playing). Its all a minefield, but I'm glad its not me in that position.

Any surprises come out of Round 1?

Yarraville Club and Bentleigh continued on their merry way.

It looks like McKinnon were impressive against South Caulfield, I think the Heat will have a decent season.

Beauy with a first up win in Senior Division.

What else can we take from Round 1?

Probably McKinnon knocking off South Caulfield for the first time in a few years was the surprise for me. Especially without the experience of Hall. Look like a young energetic team at the Heat could be the difference for them. They’ll pinch every run when batting and stop every run when fielding. Should be great to watch this year. South Caulfield don’t look to have lost any but the bowling didn’t look strong? Unless I’m missing a couple of outs.
Certainly expect Beauy to make a good account of themselves in Senior, any side with Hewett and Hignett in is impressive. Still Beshara to come back in also, and the Pom has started well with 35. Yarraville and Bentleigh both expected. Hoppers vs St Bernards was a low scorer, don’t expect either to be top 4 but stranger things have happened! Greenvale look to have picked up a beauty in former Carlton gun Jeremy Brown. Good all rounder who’ll compensate for McDonald’s defection to Brighton. Willy’s recruit from Jacana has started well & they’ll be hoping to win enough to stay up.

SCCC were missing Caunce, Gouzenfitter & Jeffree from the McK game.

Ex Carlton CC recruit Jeremy Brown looks like he ran through them with 6 wickets, and got 40 with the bat. After losing McDonald and Pizaro, Grennvale look like they may have found an adequate replacement.

Amazing when a sides 8 down with no chance of victory that their actual wicket becomes saturated. Just goes to show that some teams will do anything for points. Hopefully more comes of it as its unacceptable to have the actual wicket so waterlogged in an A grade comp. Joke really when the area next to it is as dry as a bone. Seemed to be a lot of smiles down South Caulfield way
