Thanks jim and dave. I use compo balls to bowl with in the nets at the moment. Jim's right in that the seam on synthetic balls cuts into your hands like buggery, but once its gone its a lot easier on the hands than a two piece ball.

I bowl one occasionally, it does nothing off the pitch. However it drifts enormously due to the Magnus effect - the same phenomenon that makes a topspinner dip and a flipper float. Its very hard to control due to this.

Same here jim. When I was young and more flexible the googly came easily, it was my natural delivery. Now it is more difficult. It is still useful, but it only turns back a little way. Its best not to dwell on it too much. Shane Warne first injured his shoulder bowling 45 wronguns on the trot...

Seems like a hard ball to bowl and land, also seems difficult to bowl without lobbing it quite a ways into the air. Even landing quite fullish onto dust in this video it bounces quite high. It would be difficult to keep it down on anything else, I think.

Yeah, that is another scrambled skiddy leg break for sure. It may well have been deliberate, although he did put an awful lot of work on it, it was mainly side spinning.
