    Can't Stand Two Piece Balls...

I played the first game of the season today, on a turf wicket. I was extremely nervous and bowled two balls way too full (one was deemed a no ball) and one dragged down wide of the off stump. Half the problem was the fact that they play with a 2 piece ball. By the time I get it the seam is...

Does Anyone Know Where To Buy Readers Playground Pudding Balls?

Thanks jim and dave. I use compo balls to bowl with in the nets at the moment. Jim's right in that the seam on synthetic balls cuts into your hands like buggery, but once its gone its a lot easier on the hands than a two piece ball.

    Wrist Spin Bowling (part Five)

I bowl one occasionally, it does nothing off the pitch. However it drifts enormously due to the Magnus effect - the same phenomenon that makes a topspinner dip and a flipper float. Its very hard to control due to this.

    The Googly

Same here jim. When I was young and more flexible the googly came easily, it was my natural delivery. Now it is more difficult. It is still useful, but it only turns back a little way. Its best not to dwell on it too much. Shane Warne first injured his shoulder bowling 45 wronguns on the trot...

Does Anyone Know Where To Buy Readers Playground Pudding Balls?

    The Googly

Seems like a hard ball to bowl and land, also seems difficult to bowl without lobbing it quite a ways into the air. Even landing quite fullish onto dust in this video it bounces quite high. It would be difficult to keep it down on anything else, I think.

    The Googly

This is basically an inverted doosra, right?

Does Anyone Know Where To Buy Readers Playground Pudding Balls?

I find these are the best kind of practice ball, but can't find them anywhere. Does anyone know where they can be bought? In Australia preferably, but even in the UK if they will send to Australia?

    Back-Spinning Deliveries

Yeah, that is another scrambled skiddy leg break for sure. It may well have been deliberate, although he did put an awful lot of work on it, it was mainly side spinning.

    Back-Spinning Deliveries

Since my last post I have tried bowling the backspinner a bit. Actually I do find it easier than when I last attempted it, although it still sometimes comes out as a backspinning leg break. A couple of pointers that I find work for me: a higher action is best, the higher the better. Its almost...

    Australians In Ipl

Something to be welcomed, IMO. The national cricket boards have been monopoly employers for far too long. I don't doubt that many cricketers would happily give two fingers to their cricket board and would elect to play in the IPL instead. Why sign a contract and agree to make yourself available...

    Bowling A Screwball

Well done mate, A grade is pretty darn impressive so you must be doing something right. The Herston Park nets are the best in Brisbane, near the RBH hospital. Astroturf run ups and everything. I don't run up to the wicket (I basically just dawdle) so I bowl on the ones without padded run ups...

    Bowling A Screwball

Theres a ground at Toowong that we play on but it is rain damaged now, and there is one near Kalinga park in Clayfield that is better, but it is hard to get a game there. I think the good grounds are probably better than what you get up the Coast, but the rest is probably no better. With...

    Back-Spinning Deliveries

Thats a great video for sure, but the slider that he bowls is not an OBS. He is letting the ball come out of the side of the hand from around the second finger (I suppose there is some truth to the claim that the ball comes out between the second and third finger). If it was an orthodox back...

    Bowling A Screwball

Im in Brisbane. I agree with you on the state of the turf wickets up here. I would rather play on Astroturf, at least it stays true and you do get a fair bit of turn off it. Bear in mind that I am older and the cricket I play is only one level above a bunch of guys having a casual hit in the...
