A pretty compact schedule. The first test begins on the 9th in Adelaide followed by the rescheduled Brisbane test on the 17th. The Boxing Day test begins as normal in Melbourne on the 26th before the New Years' test in Sydney commences on the 6th of January after being pushed back three days.

The one-day tri series' starting date remains the same as previously with Australia playing India at the 'G on 16 January.

**** still annoys me that we lost our Test though, should have had it over Brisbane. WACA is a bordering on a joke for spectators but I thought the TV suitability for the eastern states would have got it, shame to see the best cricket wicket in the world missing out.

More changes have been announced, Australia will take on England in the first game of the tri-series on the 16th at the SCG. The game against India at the MCG has been pushed back to 18 January.

The tour match scheduled for the 12th at Manuka Oval will see England take on the ACT XI. A one-day tour match for India will also be scheduled at a later date.

Doable though, might see fast bowlers managed with rotation I guess.

They'll have to I think, particularly with the World Cup not too far away. If Australia has an unassailable lead heading into Sydney we could see a few guys sitting out.

Yeah I'm pretty annoyed as well, best wicket in the world for sure. The BCCI would be somewhat happy from a playing perspective given they have a 1-3 record at the WACA in test matches anyway.

WA seems to always get shafted these days.. Does CA have something against the WA cricket board or something?

Basically the WACA announced a $A250 million upgrade of the WACA Ground in 2007 which would have resulted in the seating capacity being increased along with some apartment complexes being built near the ground. Final approval by WACA members was given in July 2010 and construction was to commence in March 2011.

However by November 2011 work still hadn't started and it was revealed there were issues with the upgrade, the main one being a dispute between the WACA and the Australian Cricketers Association (ACA) which wanted 26 per cent of the value of the project. A year later the WACA and its building partner began selling 137 apartments as part of "The Gardens" which was to be a 10-storey development at the western edge of the ground. This would have seen the WACA get new northern grandstands, an increase in seating capacity and also a steady revenue stream from the residential and commercial complexes. However in November 2013 the project was cancelled as it could not reach a predetermined sales target in order to finance the project.

CA wants the WACA Ground upgraded which the WACA intended to do but obviously had to renege on that as the project couldn't be financed properly. They've also stated that the ground needs major improvements and despite the ground being picturesque it is quite old and is in need of refurbishment, particularly shade for spectators as there is very little at present and the place gets extremely hot during summer (the third Ashes test had temperatures of 46, 46, 46 and 43 for the first four days). It is also the smallest ground capacity wise out of all the major cricketing grounds in Australia (MCG, Adelaide Oval, SCG, Gabba, WACA).

The above is basically the reason why we've been getting shafted of late. To make matters worse CA has welcomed games at the new Perth Sports Stadium which is being built for AFL purposes and is scheduled to be ready for use by 2018. The capacity at that ground will be 60,000.

Gee, it's the spectators who pay for poor management..

The real problem for them is they wont get stuff all from the government after they are already spending over 1 billion dollars on a new stadium just on the other side of the river. Especially when the ground is used exclusively for a single sport.

There's a review going into the WACA Ground upgrade at the moment although I'm not sure when the result of this is expected. The ground does need an upgrade though and I hope this happens soon, hopefully in time before the new stadium opens in just over three years time. The pitch at the WACA is so unique, it would be a travesty for international cricket to lose a wicket like that.

You would think the government would supply some funding. It would be unfair to pour over $A1 billion into a stadium specifically for AFL and not contribute anything of note for cricket. There's been some talk that the WACA may host WAFL games from 2016 given the current negotiation into TV rights and the desire to play more night games. If that goes ahead there would be some merit in providing funding for the WACA Ground upgrade.

The Australian players will all wear #408 instead of their own playing number on their shirts for the Adelaide test.

Just a few other updates,

  • The next round of the Sheffield Shield has been delayed until this Tuesday, it was due to start on Friday.
  • Cricket Australia has retired Phil Hughes' ODI number 64 out of respect for his passing.
  • Adelaide Strikers will pay out Hughes' BBL contract to his estate and will be allowed extra time to seek an additional player to add to their roster.

And Australia are batting with Warner already getting a few away. As usual this Adelaide pitch is an absolute freeway on the first day, Australia need to make the most of it.

Great moment when Warner got his century. No reason why he can't go on and get a second!

2 for 201.
