Lets get some chat going here. Can someone in the know go through the major ins and outs across subbies? Damiano, Clements, Harrison, Schlittler, Travaglia, Sheedy, Allen, etc?

Happy to have a crack from the West sides.

Am obviously not going to know anything about Taylors Lakes but as far as the others go, this is what I am aware of:
Altona-
Out: Sidari (Footscray), Grubb (Footscray) and McCammond (Retired)
In: Yates, Kinsella and Hollins
Batting looks very strong with a top 6 boasting; Jones, Maynard, Sheahan, Yates, Kinsella and Hollins and also spin bowling stocks with Yates and Hollins having two leggies will be interesting. Their fast bowling stocks have been heavily depleted however and is their weakness.
Yarraville-
Out: None
In: Harrison
Obviously a huge in with Harrison returning. Yarraville were in the finals last year with Lovey not firing and no Harrison, can only see them improving. Strike bowling options still not fearsome but if Keenan, Nathan Allen and Buch can contribute as they did last year there should be no issues.
Werribee-
Out: Johnstone (Coburg)
In: Gudde
Johnstone is a loss to their bowling stocks and it'll mean O'Brien will probably have to bowl a lot more overs. Gudde will add to their already strong batting line up. Question marks over whether Matt Dean and James Freeman were playing again, can't afford to lose either of those two players.
Williamstown-
Out: Hussain (England), Gillard (Strathmore)
In: McMinn, Streiff, Sheedy, Preston
Lost our leading run scorer and our opening bat who has had two disappointing years in subbies. Big ins will strengthen a batting line up that was brittle and really get four players in two with Streiff and Sheedy with their all round capabilities.
Melton-
Out: None
In: Sweet, MacRae, Geisler
Huge ins for the Lions, MacRae especially should dominate VSDCA cricket. Expect the Lions to be right back up the pointy end of the ladder.
Hoppers Crossing-
Out: Wyatt, Thisakuttiage, Darshanapriya
In: None
To my knowledge Hoppers have not picked up anyone of note and have lost their three overseas players which is disappointing for them after a wonderful first season in subbies. Can't see them featuring in March again this year but are a good Club and will bounce back.

I am sure I have missed a few names but that's a little snapshot of the West teams' off seasons.

Have heard there is a possibility County cricketer Finch will saddle up for Yarraville, but as was the case a couple of seasons ago, he would not be available if Yarra makes the finals

Couldn't squeeze Ormond or Malvern in. Going to be a tight season.
 
with the good weather forecast late in the week, we should wait as long as possible before we call it off. Even allow teams to play who can get a wicket up and let the other clubs play one day games in week 2 as needed
 
round 1 update - grounds update:
Hogans Road Reserve #1 - unavailable (3rd XI will be on the #1 ground next week one day fixture if its not called off by VSDCA)
Hogans Road Reserve #2 - available (1st XI will be on the #2 ground this week & next week if its not called off by VSDCA)
 
Why not call it off from now so all teams can get a fair result . Without doubt most wickets will be unprepared and you can expect a lot of wickets .

That then allows teams that can get a wicket up to obtain full points should an outright result be obtained.
Highly unfair on teams who would only be able to obtain points for a one day win should their decks not be ready for Saturday.
If the competition calls this week off, it allows the curators more time to prepare and to ensure decks are to a good standard for the first match of the season.
 
Curators will be starting there work on Thursday this week to get a wicket up due to recent rain. Would be silly and unfair on many clubs to play this week.
 
Why should the clubs who can get wickets prepared be penalised because of the clubs who cannot?
Even if we only get 10 games of cricket going this weekend across the competition , that is 220 people playing sport.
We are already starting on the 2nd weekend of October and now we want to give that away, when the weather forecast late in the week is good...........
Get as much cricket started this weekend as we possibly can and if a couple of teams manage to secure 10 points then good luck to them. It is all part of the game.
