Definitely huge coin. Interesting to see people having pot shots at Brighton when some clubs have been doing it for over a decade. Thorne? Rummans? Warren? How does that add up? Thats just one example. What strong clubs do is retain the 'paid' players even after they've stopped being paid. To...

Interested to hear if anyone has thoughts on what's happening at Brighton. Is it all on-field? Only on-field problems at Brighton. New ground is playing well, turf nets have just begun construction and across the 4 XIs we have performed ok. Pretty easy to criticize really. Yes Chris is a 'big...

The South West group is a very tough one to predict. Perennial powerhouses Caulfield and Oakleigh will be there or there abouts. Ormond as reigning premiers will obviously be strong- particularly as they have added Harrison and Schlittler. Brighton will certainly improve on last year's...

Anything interesting to report on from Saturday? Ormond had a shocker. How were most of the decks after some rain? Well done too to Tim O'Brien on a massive hundred.

Interesting day yesterday. Clearly a great win by Kingston against Malvern, which keeps them well and truly in the race. What happened there SS? Malvern couldnt close it out? Brighton were sensational against Caulfield, at one stage having them 5/25. Manser and Crawley were exceptional. Big...

My tips: Willy to beat Sunshine. Melton to beat Elsternwick- I still think O'Shea when he gets going is one of the most dangerous bats in the comp, but Melton should have this covered. Ormond to beat Moorabbin- Ormond were saved by the wet weather last week but should be thrilled with their...

Only 8 days until round 1; but I think it is very likely again that Rd 1 will be shortened to a one-dayer on the 2nd Saturday. Not sure if enough grounds will be ready across the 4 groups? Thought I'd put together a bit of a preview of the South Group, from what I have heard/read around the...

Ormond are really pumping up their coaching 'panel' at the moment. They have professed its the best in the VSDCA and rivals most Premier clubs. Are they over playing it a bit?

Yep fair point. Manser will be good enough to bat 6 or 7, and Whatham (the Canadian) is a batsman. He has played lots of Sydney Grade cricket. Add those two to Teschendorff and McDonald, plus a few youngsters they should be ok. Bowling will be strong with Harrod, Manser, Crawley and spinners

Clubs must be starting pre-season about now? Brighton due to start this Sunday. Few announcements on the website about a few signings. Looking quite good for the Tonners.

Dont get too excited. Brighton are certainly not signing a well known international. The tomtoms are off the mark this time.

Yep from what I saw the PNG boys were both pretty handy. The bowler more so than the batsman. You guys also had 2 poms that had played a bit in the VTCA? WIll they be around again? I know Ormond have appointed a new coach- probably more a coach than a gun player? Havent heard a lot from...

Thats right SS, most of our batting improvement needs to come from whats already within the club. Exciting to get a player of Pete's ability on board though. Bowling attack should be strong. Any news from the Saints?

Yep, he's best mates with Dale McDonald, and played a T20 game last year as our guest. Considering he's only 28 and fit, should be very very good at subbies level. Brighton's bowling has been strong enough over the past 3-4 years, just need a few batsmen to step up.

    Subbies 2011/12

Brighton have bolstered their squad with the arrival of Peter Manser from Carlton. Considering he made the District Team of the year not that long ago, and has represented Victoria 2nd XI, this should be a good addition. Brighton have finished 7th or 8th the last 3 years, so hopefully can crack...

Looks like the standard of Subbies will continue to rise. Few big signings across the board. Saw that Andrew King from Caulfield has moved across to Premier, playing for FItzroy. That's on the back of 2-3 good seasons, so it'll be interesting to see how he goes. Matthew Inness is an interesting...

Finals effectively start this week for Brighton, Malvern, Mt Waverley and Bayswater. 2 out of those 4 sides can sneak in. Hopefully the weather is fine so the games get played. Brighton have been fairly poor since Christmas but McDonald, Teschendorff and Andrew Harrod have found form at the...

If a points system comes into play, (and even if it doesn't), a good and steady transition of players from juniors to seniors will become crucial. How many players in the Caulfield 1s played their juniors at Caulfield? Any? And the same question to every other team. Although it doesn't always...

    Subbies 2011/12

They are all fair considerations, yet my primary concern is that the matches are worth 6 points, the same as 160 overs of cricket played over 2 weekends. With the finals expanding to a top 6, more than ever the final few spots in the finals can be determined by a couple of points, and a very...
