    Plastic Balls For Practice

Update on these balls! I bought six, and three have started splitting already. Maybe I just had a bad batch, the last few years these have been great, but am now looking for alternatives.

    Plastic Balls For Practice

The sharpness wears off after a few sessions and the seam will eventually completely wear off. What surface do you practice on? Have you got any aims for the winter?

    Plastic Balls For Practice

The ball holds its shape perfectly. The only issue I've found is the odd one might crack after a while, but even then its still usable. I use half a dozen of them for 6 months, 1 - 2 hours a week a mixture of indoor sportshall and outdoor tennis courts.

    Plastic Balls For Practice

I buy 6 of these 'Upfront ' balls every Autumn, they are match weight and size 5.1/2 oz compacted rubber with a similar bounce to leather. Great for practising on concrete and indoor. The seams usually wear out after some heavy abuse, but last me the whole off-season. I've tried every sort of...

    Plastic Balls For Practice

That was interesting what Warne said of Macgill. I think you have to approach bowling in a way that suits you. If you're repeatedly advised to bowl in a certain way, it can wear you down and you lose interest.

    The Googly

Thanks for the advice Chino, I already have a slider of sorts that comes out of the front of the hand with seam in the "big legbreak" position. Sometimes it grips as a legbreak & other times skids straight on. I just wanted one that breaks the other way as another option against the better...

    The Googly

I set myself a goal for this off season to a gain a consistent delivery that breaks from off to leg. I've tinkered with the offcutter, the offspinning flipper, and the googly over the years, and recently given each a good working over. The offcutter though starting to get accurate, lacks...

    Wrist Spin Bowling (part Five)

Did it turn much? how was the seam position? When I bowl it, its full side spin so sometimes grips and sometimes skids on.

    Wrist Spin Bowling (part Five)

If you scroll down on the webpage you pasted from, you will see this about his legbreak. 'This grip would then enable the fingers to apply anti-clockwise spin powerfully, easily and quickly. With this unique grip of Barnes the ball can be spun vigorously and quickly. The position of the first...

    Wrist Spin Bowling (part Five)

I've got the book on Barnes where his grip is shown and recently managed to get hold of the Barnes documentary. In his own words he says he did not bowl cutters but was a genuine spin bowler and spun the ball both ways to leg & off. His speed was more in the 70's from what witness's reported...

    Wrist Spin Bowling (part Five)

We're all waiting for the next installment on your blog, come on Dave get typing!:) Good to see legspin in the Champions trophy: Rashid, Tahir, Khan & Zampa. Rashid seems to be the pick of the bunch at the moment. He has a delivery out of the front of the hand I couldn't quite see what it was...

    Wrist Spin Bowling (part Five)

I found myself in a similar predicament, swapping between a run up of 10 steps to a 5. Some weeks the longer one was better, other times it stunk and vice versa. I was at my wits end - so I made a measurable plan. I have use of an indoor net, I marked out a target area, bowled 10 overs with...

    Wrist Spin Bowling (part Five)

Dave! I'm liking the website. The the new bit about pitch maps in the Accuracy Drills section is a great idea. I'll be trying it next session. Keep up the great work.

    The Mind And Wrist Spin

I think wrist spin requires more work in terms of accuracy. A lot of people flirt with the idea of legspin but soon realise they would have have to practice, and at local club level that is quite unusual. There is only me and two first teams bats that use the nets outside of the club practice...

    The Mind And Wrist Spin

The mental approach to bowling for me is key. It took me a few years to realise it. There were times when I would practice on my own or in the club nets, bowl some tripe and slide down an increasingly slippery slope. The cliches you often hear from sports people about emptying the mind, focus...

Concrete Pitch And Its Damage To Cricket Balls.

I buy 6 of these 'Upfront ' balls every Autumn, they are match weight 5.1/2 oz compacted rubber with a similar bounce to leather. Great for practising on concrete and indoor. The seams are usually worn out by now, but last me the whole off-season. I've tried every sort of rubber and plastic...

I'm off work next week and I would be up for a session, though London maybe a bit far for me. Anyone within 30 miles of Northamptonshire up for a net?
