I don't know of many sides who don't already use 5 bowlers, especially in the lower grades. And fielding restrictions is tough enough to officiate when a lot of the umpires outside shield grades are absolutely hopeless. In the lower grades implementing fielding restrictions would be even tougher...
What I have heard from talking to some umpires is that the umpires as a group are furious that Johnson got off. He was reported by the umpires on the day as a moderate report. This means even with an early plea it would have been reduced to 1 match, meaning he would have missed the GF. Once the...
In the grades below the shield cricket there is quite a few umpires who are just far too old. Virtually no hearing and poor eye sight. But they keep rocking up week in week out because that extra cash goes nicely with their pensions. The DVCA really needs to tap a few on the shoulder and say...
Returning to local cricket is not an indicator of whether they made it at a higher level or not, I'm sure there's plenty of reasons people return to local level other than performance
I don’t mind opening up 20/20 cricket to more but players. But I’m not sure that the regular season is the way to do it. I agree with what was mentioned earlier that it’s not necessarily in the best interested in regards to young player development. Also finals cricket is 2 day cricket so teams...
I know what you are saying, plus you have guys away with footy trips etc, etc. And this year I believe the lower grades started at the same time as the juniors. But I remember last year the juniors went back before the lower senior grades which isn't a good look

But you aren't putting more overs in the same time frame, you want to extend playing conditions an extra hour and half for lower grades (lower grades start at 1 and...
I dunno about OPs, but I would have thought most clubs would be looking around at this time of year as to whats out there unless they already have someone signed?
When have all 22 blokes in a grade below D all arrived before quarter to 1 anyway? Rarely happens.
My understanding is four piece balls aren't used in lower grades purely to keep costs down.
Agree with starting the lower grades at the same date as the higher grades. In previous years the...
Macleod was doing well until Tim Wise's run out, until that point it looked as if they could post a score that would have given their bowlers something to bowl at.
I agree also. Only have to look at Lower Plenty. 5 or 6 years ago didn't have a junior side, had to get special permission to stay affiliated with the DVCA. Currently struggling, no doubt in part to lack of juniors emerging through the ranks. But at the time, they paid someone to be their junior...
