So the season is well and truly done now and as we head into the winter months and also the off-season things have gotten quite interesting from a player list perspective. As always there has been quite a few changes for a number of states so far and we'll be detailing that all in here for the upcoming Australian domestic season. Below is a few of the more interesting pieces of news and player movements so far during the silly season,
- A furore has developed over the use of the MCG in March 2016 between Cricket Australia (CA) and the Australian Football League (AFL). With Easter very early next year, CA want to have the Sheffield Shield final covering all four days of the Easter long weekend (25-28 March 2016) while the AFL wants to commence Round One of the 2016 premiership season on that particular weekend to start the season with bumper crowd numbers. The AFL has called on the Victorian government to get involved but they announced earlier in the week that the issue was "a matter for the CA and AFL to sort out" and refused to get involved. CA's desire to hold the Shield final would also potentially leave Adelaide Oval, Gabb and Bellerive Oval unavailable that weekend depending on who qualifies for the final. This would leave the AFL with limited options for its round one fixtures. It's also believed that 2016 will be the last year for this seemingly yearly dispute with Junction Oval to be upgraded to first-class status for 2016/17.
- The McDermott brothers, Alistair and Ben were axed by Queensland for the 2015/16 season in a rather surprise move. Ben has been rumoured to be heading to Tasmania while Alistair could sign with Victoria.
- Ed Cowan has left Tasmania citing family reasons and has headed home to new South Wales where he has signed a one-year contract in order to try and reignite his test career.
- James Hopes has stepped down as captain of Queensland but will play on in 2015/16.
