3rd Test: South Africa vs Pakistan at Cape Town

The third and final test of the series and we enter a "live" game, the series tied at one apeice with the winner of this game to win the series. In breaking news, Herchelle Gibbs appeal against his suspension has been dismissed, meaning that he will miss this test and two subsequent ODI's, proving a massive blow to South Africa's chances of winning. Boeta Dippenaar will open the innings in place of AB de Villiers, with de Villiers dropping back to number six as Gibbs is now suspended.

Dale Steyn comes in for fiery fast bowler Andre Nel and there is a chance that either Shaun Pollock or Makhaya Ntini will be rested for this match with either Andrew Hall or Morne Morkel to come into the team in their place.

Pakistan take in a few changes as well. Shoaib Akhtar bowled well in the second test but was made to look very foolish after breaking down during the match. Shahid Nazir will come into the team after Shabbir Ahmed was deemed unfit to play.

This will be the series decider, all is at stake here and expect a result.

Re: 3rd Test: South Africa vs Pakistan at Cape Town

Shoaib Akhtar couldn't complete the previous match because he was trying to do it drug free.

Re: 3rd Test: South Africa vs Pakistan at Cape Town

Pakistan are 4/70 at Lunch with Kallis and Ntini taking apart the top order.

Yousef is still there on 13 and Inzi unbeaten on 6.

Re: 3rd Test: South Africa vs Pakistan at Cape Town

C'mon Pakis. Big partnership needed. Both these batsmen are in form.

Re: 3rd Test: South Africa vs Pakistan at Cape Town

Wow, another day for the bowlers. In the last test 16 wickets fell on the first day. Today, 15 wickets fell on Day 1.
Score after Day 1:

Pakistan 157
South Africa 131/5 (39.0 ov)

Yousuf was the only Pakistani who got a score, with 83. Ntini and Kallis each took 4 wickets.

For South Africa, Smith scored 64 to get them started, and with Prince and Harris still in there, and Boucher and Hall yet to come, I suspect they'll easily erase the remaining 26 run deficit, and probably get a lead of about 50 runs.

Looks like another test that won't go 5 days.
At least we're getting results out of this series.

Re: 3rd Test: South Africa vs Pakistan at Cape Town

South Africa all out for 183, good for a lead of 26 after the first innings.

Re: 3rd Test: South Africa vs Pakistan at Cape Town

Pakistan's second innings: all out for 186

That's right, another 15 wickets fell today.

South Africa have a target of 161 to win this test.

Re: 3rd Test: South Africa vs Pakistan at Cape Town

South Africa starting off a little slowly at 4-0 after 4 overs.

But then Graeme Smith scored 11 runs in the 5th over and 12 in the 6th. With 20 of those runs coming from boundaries. Looks like he wants this innings to be another brief one!

Re: 3rd Test: South Africa vs Pakistan at Cape Town

Kaneria comes on and immediately takes a wicket. Lucky for South Africa it was Dippenaar and not Smith.

Kaneria is key to Pakistan's chances, and I'm sure he'll be bowling a lot of the overs tomorrow.

Re: 3rd Test: South Africa vs Pakistan at Cape Town

And Kaneria gets nightwatchman Harris on the last ball of the day.
He'll need more of the same tomorrow.

South Africa finished 36-2, they need only another 125 runs to win this.
Graeme Smith scored 33 of those 36 runs.

Re: 3rd Test: South Africa vs Pakistan at Cape Town

13 runs and 2 wickets in the first hour

gripping stuff.

Kallis at the crease with Prince

i think South Africa will win this, although i said that last test match didn't i?

Re: 3rd Test: South Africa vs Pakistan at Cape Town

YEAH!

South Africa have done it!

Only lost one more wicket for the day too, scoring the runs reasonably easy in the end.

But before the start of the day - it was Collapso Cricket at its finest!

Re: 3rd Test: South Africa vs Pakistan at Cape Town

That was some super bowling from Kaneria and Asif to try to make that match last as long as possible.

Good win for South Africa in the end though.

Re: 3rd Test: South Africa vs Pakistan at Cape Town

Very good win to SA to secure them the series. I think it will help Smith keep his job too.
