Re: Big Cricket Twenty20I Tournament (Squads, Fixtures, Results + Discussion)

Game One - England vs Australia

England to bat first.

A slow start and McGrath has two wickets in two balls. England 15/2 from 3 overs.

England's recovery is building, Trescothick and Pietersen have made a useful 50 partnership in five overs.

Another two ball, two wicket salvo from Australia, this time from Warne. England are 70/4 from 9 overs. Trescothick and Collingwood are both gone.

17 balls later, Pietersen is run out for 39. Flintoff is on 32 from 16 balls. England are 109/5 from 12.5 overs. A third double wicket salvo. Pietersen and Jones gone within two balls of each other.

Flintoff is caught off Lee and Australia are in to the tail now. 114/7 and England's innings is a sorry sight.

Plunkett is now gone for 8 which included a six off Warne. 121/8 from 15.3 overs.

McGrath cleans up the tail and England are all out for 139 from 17.5 overs.

END OF INNINGS

Australia to chase 140 at a run rate of 7.00.

Langer is gone third ball for two. Australia 3/1 after first over.

Australia well up with the rate after five overs. Ponting is going well on 24*. Required rate: 6.7.

Double-wicket over for Hoggard. Hayden and Martyn both gone. Australia still favourites to win though. 67/3 from 7 overs.

A big over from Ponting as he passes his 50 in just 27 balls.

He's gone! A wonderful innings of 60 from 34 deliveries (8 fours, 3 sixes). Australia well on course for the win at 106/4 from 10 overs.

Collingwood takes the wicket of Clarke for 4 but it seems too little, too late. 28 runs from 54 balls required.

Symonds is gone for 20 and barring a dramatic collapse, the win is Australia's. 119/6 from 12 overs.

Warne smashes Australia home with two consecutive boundaries to give the Aussies the perfect start.

Australia beat England by 4 wickets.

England 139/10 (17.5 overs, Pietersen 39, McGrath 4-17)
Australia 140/6 (13.2 overs, Ponting 60, Harmison 2-27)

I'll do Pakistan vs India tomorrow morning. Enjoy :D

Re: Big Cricket Twenty20I Tournament (Squads, Fixtures, Results + Discussion)

Game Two - Pakistan vs India

Pakistan to bat first.

  1. Salman Butt is already off like the clappers, 18-0 from 1 over. (Butt 11*, Malik 7*).
  2. Followed up by a miserly 1 run over, from Pathan. 19-0 from 2 overs. (Butt 11*, Malik 8*).
  3. Malik hits a four to create the only runs from the over. 23-0 from 3 overs. (Butt 11*, Malik 12*).
  4. 12 from this Pathan over as Butt launches a six in to the crowd. 35-0 from 4 overs. (Butt 22*, Malik 13*).
  5. Two fours from Malik who is hitting his stride now. 43-0 from 5 overs. (Butt 22*, Malik 21*).
  6. Another four for Malik and four other runs. 51-0 from 6 overs. (Butt 25*, Malik 26*).
  7. 14 off the seventh over, including 2 fours. 65-0 from 7 overs. (Butt 32*, Malik 33*).
  8. Butt goes in to over-drive in this over, hitting 2 fours and a six. 17 runs from it. India need this partnership broken. 82-0 from 8 overs. (Butt 49*, Malik 33*).
  9. Butt passes 50 with a typical boundary. 3 other singles make 7 in the over. 89-0 from 9 overs. (Butt 55*, Malik 34*). Butt's 50 = 5x4s, 3x6s, 27 balls.
  10. 15 runs off the tenth over, Pakistan are dominant. 104-0 from 10 overs. (Butt 59*, Malik 45*).
  11. Butt smashes the Turbanator for 16 runs, including 2 sixes and a four. 120-0 from 11 overs. (Butt 75*, Malik 45*).
  12. Kumble ends with figures of 0-47 from his 4 overs but, vitally, Butt is run out in this over. A magnificent innings of 79 from 35 balls comes to an end. 127-1 from 12 overs. (Malik 45*, Khan 0*). Butt's 79 = 6x4s, 5x6s, 39 balls.
  13. Amidst all the confusion, Malik passed 50 somewhere. Khan hits two fours before getting caught off Harbhajan Singh. 140-2 from 13 overs. (Malik 57*, Inzamam 0*). Khan's 8 = 2x4s, 4 balls.
  14. A relatively uneventful over. A four for Malik and 5 other runs. 149-3 from 14 overs. (Malik 63*, Inzamam 3*).
  15. A vital over from H Singh. He ends with figures of 2-39 and has bowled Malik for 64. He conceded just three from the over. 152-4 from 15 overs. (Inzamam 4*, Yousuf 1*). Malik's 64 = 11x4s, 41 balls.
  16. 21 off the Pathan over. 2 fours and a six. He ends with 0-43. 173-3 from 16 overs. (Inzamam 22*, Yousuf 4*).
  17. 15 off Chawla's over. 2 fours and a six. 188-3 from 17 overs. (Inzamam 22*, Yousuf 19*).
  18. Patel gets rid of Yousuf and Raza in an over which goes for 9. 197-5 from 18 overs. (Inzamam 24*, Akmal 7*). Yousuf's 19 = 2x4s, 1x6, 10 balls. Raza's 0 = 2 balls.
  19. Chawla ends with 1-44. 7 off the over with one four. Akmal goes for 7. 204-6 from 19 overs. (Inzamam 29*, Ahmed 2*). Akmal's 7 = 1x4, 3 balls.
  20. Final over. 16 from the last over to push Pakistan's total up to 220-6. Ahmed ends with 15* from 6 balls (2 fours). Inzamam ends with 32 from 15 balls (3 fours, 1 six). Patel ends with 2-47. India with a massive task.

END OF INNINGS

India to chase 221 at a run rate of 11.05 runs per over.

  1. Wonderful first over from Akhtar. Just the single from the last ball. 1-0 from 1 over. (1* Sehwag, 0* Jaffer).
  2. That's more like it from India. 13 off the over. 14-0 from 2 overs. (Sehwag 9*, Jaffer 5*).
  3. 10 from the over. If these two can stay in, we might have game on our hands. 24-0 from 3 overs. Pakistan were 23-0. (Sehwag 18*, Jaffer 6*)

Game Three - Australia vs Pakistan

The two victors from the first round lock horns in the third game of the tournament. Watch out for Salman Butt taking on Glenn McGrath, the two stand-out performers of the first two games.

Australia to bat first.

  1. What an opening over by Akhtar! Australia are left in deep trouble at 2-2 as Langer and Ponting are both gone for 0 from 2 balls. (Hayden 0*, Martyn 2*)
  2. 12 runs and a wicket and Pakistan have started superbly here. Mohammad Sami takes the wicket of Mathew Hayden for 8 from 8 balls. Australia are 14-3. (Martyn 2*, Symonds 2*)
  3. Australia are crumbling to the sheer pace of Shoaib Akhtar. Symonds is trapped LBW for 4 from 3 balls. Australia end the over 20-4. (Martyn 7*, Clarke 1*)
  4. Another 12 runs and another wicket for Sami. Michael Clarke is stumped (?!) and Australia are down and out at 32-5. (Martyn 16*, Gilchrist 0*)
  5. 19 runs and a sixth wicket go down for Australia. Damien Martyn is gone for 30 from 13 balls. Australia are 51-6. (Gilchrist 0*, Warne 5*)
  6. 9 off the Malik over and the first over goes by without a wicket. 60-6. (Gilchrist 0*, Warne 14*)
  7. 6 off the over. Australia are 66-6 from 7 overs. Gilchrist has done sod all but block 3 balls so far. (Gilchrist 0*, Warne 20*)
  8. 8 off the over. Australia are 74-6 from 8 overs and rebuilding the sorry innings they have so far produced. (Gilchrist 6*, Warne 22*)
  9. 7 more runs. Australia are 81-6 from 9. (Gilchrist 11*, Warne 24*)
  10. 2 from Malik's 3rd over to get to the half-way stage. Australia 83-6. (Gilchrist 12*, Warne 25*)
  11. Kaneria goes for 4. Australia just trundling along, trying to bat out the overs. Australia 87-6. (Gilchrist 13*, Warne 28*)
  12. 8 more runs. Australia are 91-6 and Pakistan have missed their chance to skittle Australia out for less than 100, you'd think. (Gilchrist 17*, Warne 32*)
  13. Kaneria finally makes the breakthrough! Warne is out LBW for 32 off 24, then Kasprowicz goes without scoring. Australia 97-8. (Gilchrist 18*, Lee 1*)
  14. Australia reach 100, for the price of 8 wickets. 102-8. (Gilchrist 19*, Lee 4*)
  15. Kaneria cleans house with a stumping and a bowling. Lee is gone for 4 and McGrath for 0. Gilchrist ends on an unbeaten score of a-run-a-ball 26.

END OF INNINGS

Pakistan are chasing 109 to win. Akhtar 3-8, Warne 32.

  1. Butt and Malik start well. 7-0. (Butt 1*, Malik 6*)
  2. Lee is hit for 12 and Pakistan go to 19-0. (Butt 12*, Malik 7*)
  3. A crucial wicket for Australia if they are to put up a fight. Malik is out for 7. Pakistan are 21-1 from 3 overs. (Butt 13*, Khan 1*)
  4. 4 from the over. 25-1 from 4 overs. (Butt 16*, Khan 2*)
  5. Kasprowicz is smacked for three consecutive fours as Khan gets going. 38-1. (Butt 16*, Khan 15*)
  6. Pakistan are well on their way now. Warne gets smacked for 12. 50-1. (Butt 23*, Khan 20*)
  7. 14 runs smashed off Symonds. 64-1 from 7 overs. (Butt 30*, Khan 27*)
  8. 7 off Kasprowicz. 71-1. (Butt 35*, Khan 29*)
  9. 9 more off Warne and none of the Aussie bowlers look interested. 80-1. (Butt 40*, Khan 33*)
  10. McGrath returns to the attack and goes for 4. 84-1. 25 to win. (Butt 41*, Khan 36*)
  11. 10 off the Lee over and Butt passes 50 from 33 balls. A great knock for the second time in two matches. 94-1. (Butt 50*, Khan 37*)
  12. A massive 18 run over off McGrath wins the game for Pakistan. What an easy win for Pakistan, who must be up there with the favourites now. They end on 112-1.

Australia 108-10 (14.5 overs, Warne 32, Akhtar 3-8)
Pakistan 112-1 (12 overs, Butt 59*, McGrath 1-31)

Pakistan win by 9 wickets.

Game Four (India vs South Africa) coming up later.
