Mombasa tri-series (Kenya, Scotland, Canada)

This kicks off today with Kenya taking on Scotland.
For those interested, there will be live scores on Cricket Europe.

What are people's picks for the tournament?
My pick is Kenya to win, Scotland runners up and Canada third.

Hopefully, Kenya will get off to a winning start in the first game today.

Should be interesting to see where these sides lie in advance of the WCL tournament coming up at the end of the month.

Re: Mombasa tri-series (Kenya, Scotland, Canada)

I'd certainly expect Kenya to win too, especially after Scotland's troubles against Bangladesh.

That said, I'll go out on a limb and predict a 3-way tie.
Each team will win 2 and lose 2. :D

Re: Mombasa tri-series (Kenya, Scotland, Canada)

Word is the pitches will be very spin-friendly, owing to the rain that's been very heavy in past weeks. Canada has Sandher and Davison, two boys that can really give it a rip. No way they're favoured, but I think the team underacheived last summer. They have the potential to be better. May just be the fan in me though.

Re: Mombasa tri-series (Kenya, Scotland, Canada)

Canada's biggest problem will be that they're still missing Barnett and Billcliff.

Re: Mombasa tri-series (Kenya, Scotland, Canada)

Great start by Kenya. 328 batting first is a very good total on that wicket.
Almost all of the batsmen contributed: 4 half centuries and an unbeaten 46 off 26 from Odoyo. Only Ouma (12) and Tikolo (1) failed, but not everyone can score every time.

Awesome to see Ravi Shah score a 50 in his first match back and a great display by the Obuya brothers and Mishra.
All up to the bowlers now, they should enjoy bowling to such a good total.

Re: Mombasa tri-series (Kenya, Scotland, Canada)

Scotland 16/2 (6.5 ov)

Poonia and Watson have fallen victim early to Pete Ongondo.

Re: Mombasa tri-series (Kenya, Scotland, Canada)

Odoyo 4 overs so far for 6 runs.
Ongondo 3 overs for 12, but crucially has 2 wkts.
2/18 after 7 - dream start to Kenya's defence!

Re: Mombasa tri-series (Kenya, Scotland, Canada)

Scotland heading for a massive defeat.

3/94 after 13

Odoyo 6 2 11 0
Ongondo 6 0 24 3
Odhiambo 1 0 2 1

:D :D :D

13???

So has Scotland scored 75 runs in the last 6 overs???

Re: Mombasa tri-series (Kenya, Scotland, Canada)

woooops.

that should have read 4/39 - was getting a bit excited

sorry :p

Re: Mombasa tri-series (Kenya, Scotland, Canada)

they are now 4/58 after 16.
Varaiya's first over goes for 10 :(
Hopefully he will bounce back with a couple of wickets

Re: Mombasa tri-series (Kenya, Scotland, Canada)

this is turning into a rout!

6/82 after 20.

Odhiambo joins the Kenyan players who take PBs from this match with his first ODI 3-for.

Re: Mombasa tri-series (Kenya, Scotland, Canada)

All out for 138
John Blain 22 (50)*
Pete Ongondo 30/3
Nehemiah Odhiambo 25/3

Re: Mombasa tri-series (Kenya, Scotland, Canada)

Wow, what a blowout!

I'm going to change my prediction from post #3:
Kenya looked so good that I think they're going to win all 6 games.
They'll even win the matches between Scotland and Canada!

Re: Mombasa tri-series (Kenya, Scotland, Canada)

:D

Now that was more like it for Kenya.

Ravi back definitely made a difference, but a great performance all round.
Fantastic bowling also from the three seamers.

Lets hope this sort of cricket is kept up through to the other side of the World Cup!

Points Table after Match 2/6
Code:
            P W L NR T BP Pts NRR
Kenya 1 1 0 0 0 1 5 +3.80
Scotland 2 1 1 0 0 0 4 -1.86
Canada 1 0 1 0 0 0 0 -0.07

Remaining Fixtures
Saturday January 20 - Kenya v Canada
Sunday January 21 - Kenya v Scotland
Tuesday January 23 - Canada v Scotland
Wednesday January 24 - Kenya v Canada

So that's where it sits after two matches, Kenya at the top of the table with a game in hand on second place Scotland. It would get interesting, however, if Canada could pull the upset on Saturday. The forecast is for sunny days all weekend with highs each day of 31C (87F). Much nicer than the 38C they had to deal with today.

Points Table after Match 4/6
Code:
           P W T NR L BP Pts NRR
Kenya 3 3 0 0 0 1 13 1.960
Scotland 3 1 0 0 2 0 4 -1.295
Canada 2 0 0 0 2 0 0 -0.040

Remaining Fixtures
23 January - Canada v Scotland
24 January - Kenya v Canada

So Kenya have clinched the tri-series victory as they sit on 13 points. The best Canada could do is 10 points, and Scotland, 9. The Canada-Scotland match on the 23rd is somewhat of a consolation final, and the series will round out with a Kenya-Canada match (hopefully). Now it's all about getting your players in form for the upcoming WCL.
