More concentration...

Just remembered another concentration drill that I was taught many moons ago. Basically, the idea with this is to learn to focus then relax, focus then relax. It's a great way of preserving mental energy and helping to maintain concentration for longer.

Set out 6 cricket balls in a semi-circle shape (as shown below but any shape will do). The batter (blue dot) then stands a few feet away and awaits the signal, upon that signal he must step up and hit the first ball, before returning to his mark. This is then repeated until all 6 have been hit. The idea is to have small periods of concentration (hitting the ball, waiting for the signal) coupled with relaxation (returning to the mark).

As a progression you can give each ball a number and then signal which ball to hit. This will help to focus the mind further. You can also add a ground fielding drill into this by having 6 fielders waiting who must field the ball when their given number is called.
