Re: need more pace

A few questions for you kizza:

How old are you?
How do you know what speed you are bowling now?
Do you have a coach? If so what work has he done with you?
Do you do any strength or power training, if so what?
Why do you need more pace?

Re: need more pace

im 14
yes i have a coach hes been training me to bowl straight which i have now become very good at.
but it is the christmas holidays and i hvnt been able to see him ova the break
i am fair strong
to i need to workout to bowl faster??
i want to get more pace so that the batsmen have a hard time playing the ball i bowl

Re: need more pace

Though David will be able to help you more, one key area will be to develop your core strength. A thread about it can be found here.

Also, it would be handy to see your bowling technique to see if we can pick up on anything that could be improved - are you able to post a video of you bowling?

Re: need more pace

At 14 the main thing you need to do to improve your speed is to just grow (which I hope you will do anyway!).

A 14 year old who can bowl at 70mph+ is very quick indeed so you are either overestimating your speed or you are already very fast.

As A_A says, fitness will help - balance, coordination, power and strength all contribute to overall pace. Get in the habit of training now because becoming a good bowler is a lot easier if you are a good athlete first.

Martial arts, racket sports, yoga, 'teen' style fitness classes and strength training can all help. Anything else that requires coordination, balance, speed, agility, running, jumping or throwing can be considered. Pick a couple of other things to do regularly apart from cricket at stick with them.

Technique is also critical. Tell your coach you want pace and you want him to help you get it. If he is any good he will get you there to the maximum speed your genetic potential allows.

Also I recommend you buy this book:

If you are serious about improving speed you will also look at your diet. In the long term it will lead to more strength, less body fat, less injuries and better recovery from cricket and injury.

Finally you need to think about how you are going to reach your goal by making it realistic. Here are some goal setting tips:

If you need more help kizza just let us know.

I'm sure I speak for everyone on here in saying we would love to hear how you are doing in the coming season. Success in cricket is a long term thing and a few tips on an online forum are not going to make any difference unless you commit to your game long term.

Hopefully we can make that journey with you.
