Samuels faces two-year ban

Marlon Samuels has been found guilty by the West Indies board's disciplinary committee of breaching the ICC's Code of Conduct for "receiving money, or benefit or other reward that could bring him or the game of cricket into disrepute." The violation carries a minimum two-year ban and the WICB has passed on the committee's decision and recommendations to the ICC.
Full Story

I'm surprised that it took them so long to complete this investigation. This incident took place last year in February when West Indies toured India and Samuels was caught on tape by the Indian police.

Here is the full transcript of their conversation

Re: Samuels faces two-year ban

I remember there was a lot of talk about it last year after the West Indies tour to India. They were already claiming that Samuels was guilty but now the West Indies board has also agreed. I think he deserves the ban for doing such a thing.

Re: Samuels faces two-year ban

This might sound a bit naive but I don`t think it is too bad. If I had had that conversation I wouldn`t know where or on what to put my money!! I have to admit I`m no gambler and in the right hands some of what was said may have been used inappropriately but just think how long the ban could of been if he didn`t mumble and all the conversation was audiable!!!!!

Re: Samuels faces two-year ban

It is still against the rules to give any information about the match to anyone and the guy he was talking to is a bookie. If it was someone else then I would have some sympathy for Samuels but he was talking to a bookie.

Re: Samuels faces two-year ban

It hasn't been revealed what sort of benefit, monetary or otherwise, Samuels got for giving the information to a bookie, but he did get something out of it so its a clear cut case. Even if he didn't get any benefits, he would get banned for 12 months according to the ICC code of conduct.
