the end of the kolpak?

well it seems the ecb has finally got its way in limiting the kolpaks playing in the county game. New laws are going to prevent kolpaks unless they have played a test match in the last 2 years or 5 tests in the last 5 years. The question will be now that most of the good free players have been signed where are the gaps going to be filled in the line ups that this creates, will it bring in talented youngsters or players that are out of their depth. Moreover what is to happen to the existing kolpaks that are in county line ups that still have deals in their contracts, will counties really want to play them as an overseas player or will there be alot of terminating contracts.

They'll filter out over the next few years, which is a good thing to a large extent. Too many places being taken up non English qualifed cricketers, places which could be used to develop young players.

Of course, quality players from overseas can have a positive effect but in this day and age how often do they play county cricket? You may get one or two come over for a 6/7 week spell here and there but that is about it.
