Webbing Split And Taping The Fingers

My question has two parts.

I had an injury while catching the ball last year in March 2011. My webbing between my middle finger and ring finger of my right hand got split. Although, I recovered after 3 stiches and two weeks of rest, I recently injured the same area again in a similar fashion.
I was told that my catching technique is wrong and need to keep my fingers closed while catching the ball. I have been working on it but now I am worried to go for practice again fearing that I might split my webbing again.

Some of them adviced me to tape my fingers.

Now my question is, which fingers should I tape and how to avoid any other hand injuries esp. webbing split. Will buddy-taping my middle finger and ring finger cause any hindrance in catching the ball? Also, I wanted to know taping which areas of the fingers would avoid injuries caused by ball hitting your tip of the fingers.

I just need some basic taping advice so that I can avoid injuries to some extent.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Just to add up: I am a left handed player.
