When will Andrew Symonds grow up?

Well yesterday we had the big media apology from Andrew Symonds. He appeared on camera making a statement that seemed to be memorised from whatever his manager had written for him to say.
I'll play along with him and post some of the grabs that reporters can put in their articles.
He's 33 now, and there isn't that much of a 'future' for him left in the game.
If the guy can't realise what he should be doing and shouldn't be doing by now, then how is he going to sort it out in the next two or three years of his career?
Its a worry when Michael Clarke, 6 years younger than Symonds, is telling him how to act. Symonds, at 33, is one of the older guys in the Australian playing group, and should be acting like it.
I remember at one point he coveted some type of captaincy role within the team. Captains should lead by example, and going fishing aint one of them!
Speaking of which, my indoor cricket captain texted me telling me that we had an optional fielding session before the game tonight.
I'll have to text him back that I've gone fishing- see you at two minutes before the game!

Quote:
"I do live each moment as it comes but I think I do probably need to put a little bit more thought into some of the things I have been doing. I am in a position of responsibility and I can't live irresponsibly,"
"I've now realised that. It's probably taken me longer than it should have but I'm prepared to move on.
"I see this as a chapter closing and I'm going to make a real go of the new chapter."
"I apologise for some of the things I've done over the last little bit and hopefully after this next little bit I come out of it a better person and won't make these mistakes in the future,"

You need a maverick or two within the team and that's what Symonds is. Take that away from him and you lose a player.
Personally, I thin a lot of what has gone on has been blown up but at the same time if his heart isn't in it, then his heart isn't in it.
I know one thing and that is the fact that Australia will miss in him India.Posted 17 Sep 2008 at 04:12 by mas cambios

I'm not sure we will that badly. He's one of those guys we call an all-rounder because he's not that good at anything.
Would he get in as solely a batsman? Probably not in the test squad.
Ditto his bowling- if he was only a bowler, he's not test quality.
I'd rather see a proper batsman who can turn the arm over ie someone like M.Clarke, take his spot.
Watson isn't the answer either btw!Posted 18 Sep 2008 at 03:10 by el-capitano

Hi all, I am doing some research into the future development of cricket and one small element of it is the following survey. It will only take 2 minutes and if its cricket you love, your participation would be great.

Looking foward to India and a solid summer of cricket downunder. Cheers.Posted 20 Sep 2008 at 05:07 by axavierh
