What do you recommend Sticka? All serious suggestions will be gratefully accepted.

Razza, the BCUA is only affiliated with the BCA there has been no merger. The BCUA is a seperate entity, but umpires are appointed by the BCA, and there is an umpire (President of the BCUA) on the BCA board.

As for those umpires that have left, well probably best to speak with them to understand why.

Steve.
I did read one of the articles that was in the courier. There was a old guy who was going to umpire his 200th match. Good stuff, but what about the younger brigade? Surely you would have plenty of youngsters who are interested in cricket umpiring.
Why don't you see if you can organise a website for the umpiring department? It might actually help you with the recruitment of people who want to take it up.

Great work by Ron Bedford to get to 200 games. Great bloke and worthy of the recognition.

He got a clearance to North Ballarat at least 3 years ago and you could count the number of games he's played for us on one hand.

I heard that he was going to be back at Mt Clear again this year. Read it in the newspaper.

Really? The Courier must have expanded its horizons to report on 3rds and 4ths players now.

any early thoughts on the bca rep side this year????
1:S.Miller - oppening bat and change medium pacer
2:M.Goonan - oppening bat and handy part time spinner
3:A.Steenholt - best current No.3 bat in the comp, experience
4:H.Pyke - suited to one day games if top order gets in, wicket keeper
5:M. Skinner - close to best bat in comp, captain
6:M.Cape - best all-rounder in the comp
7.Fletcher - all-rounder who is suited to one day cricket
8:P.Appleton - all-rounder taking 7 wickets can't be overlooked
9:E.Johnson - Quality right arm pace with movement
10:B.Thompson - Quality pacer who has the fire
11:A.Ringin - Left arm pacer who brings some variety
12:P.Moore - Back up paceman
13:J.White - Unlucky to be 13 back up bat, can bat anywhere

Mike wonders why you "experts" always overlook facts. he knows it's early in the season and the online stats are incorrect from last year coz you can add 100 more onto steenholt, yates, oloughlan, walter and pyke BUT:

BATTING 2008-09
# Surname First Club Runs
1 Webb Gavin Wendouree 205
2 Fletcher Darren Mt Clear 163

6 Begbie Mathew Wendouree 113
7 Miller Sam Wendouree 110
8 Severino Brett Mt Clear 109
9 Wright Daniel East Ballarat 103
10 Yates Nathan East Ballarat 101

BATTING 2007-08

6 Yates Nathan East Ballarat 313
7 Walter Chris Napoleons-Sebastopol 312
8 Pyke Heath Wendouree 294
9 Steenholdt Allan Darley 281
10 Sproules David Napoleons-Sebastopol 244

BOWLING 2008-09
# Surname First Club Wkts
1 Johnson Eamon Wendouree 7
2 Parker Brendan Darley 7
3 Appleton Pete Golden Point 7
4 Colbourne Peter East Ballarat 7
5 Fletcher Darren Mt Clear 6
6 Cahir Rhys Wendouree 6
7 Burns Brendan Coronet City 5
8 Swards Matthew Golden Point 5
9 Knowles Ryan Brown Hill 5
10 Moore Peter Darley 5

BOWLING 2007-08
# Surname First Club Wkts
1 Johnson Eamon Wendouree 38
2 Ringin Ashley Napoleons-Sebastopol 27
3 Moore Peter Golden Point 25
4 Yates Nathan East Ballarat 24
5 Allan Simon Ballarat-Redan 19
6 Simpkin Brad East Ballarat 18

On that how can you not pick yates, moore, oloughlan, parker and even take along begbie, finzel and colbourne?

thats the whole idea mike just trying to create some intrest and disscussion. Yates is probably stiff not to make it, moore if you can read is in the 13, not many bowlers can go 5 days straight, oloughlin no offense and im sure he would understand it probably a touch long in the tooth for country week, and appleton is a better spin option than parker. I don't see you naming you bca rep side.......

None taken, Edge. You are right. I reckon once you get to 31-32 (I'm 34) you don't recover so well. I know Apples is the same. Batting is fine as it is a mental game but recovering afterwards takes longer. It's like drinking. I take an extra day or two to recover these days. I have probably abused my body more than someone like Paullllll who is probably in better nick now than when he was 25.

Plus I reckon the Cook wouldn't be too keen on Father Bear leaving the boudoir and the kids for a week.

Yates is one player who most bowlers hate bowling too. Just a query as who people hate bowling to the most and hate facing?
