Re: 2009 Ashes 1st Test Team Predictions
Depending on squad sizes but mine would probably now be
Hughes, Katich, Ponting, Hussey (Very thin ice), Clarke, North, Haddin, McDonald, Siddle, Clark, Johnson
Dont think Ponting will want 4 genuine quicks, takes too long to bowl the overs, alot will depend on pitches as well
Then the remaining squad in order
Dussey/Ferguson (ODI performances will decide it, both possible to go)
Hilfenhaus
Hauritz/McGain (Be interesting, but one of those 2 should go, Krezja is just shit)
Any larger squad and there could be Watson as reserve batsman, Manou should be backup keeper, Lee should not be there unless atleast 4 pace bowlers ahead of him + Medium allrounder
Rogers name is thrown around a bit but why would they take a reserve opener? Given Husseys form the spot is better for a middle order batsman and Rogers is playing county cricket if an opener wanted

Hmmm ... think I like that one. M.Hussey will be given the chance, but when you are a good side, you don't tolerate poor form for long. Even captains & champions of the recent past have been gently pushed out.
I would tend to think Rogers may not be such a bad inclusion. With Katich, most would say he is a better middle-order batsman, including himself. What if he were to slide back there if anyone falters? That would mean Ferguson &/or D.Hussey (or Hodge???) would be plenty of back-up ... please don't put us through another desperately forlorn Watson episode.
Spinners are essential in the Old Dart, however the Likes of North, Katich & Clarke could surely do the job as well if not better than Hauritz would. Lee might be fit, but can we afford to "ease" him back into the side along with Clark on such an important tour, when he's never performed well over there anyway? Much prefer swing bowlers on English soil ... Hilf, McDonald, Bollinger or Bracken.

Re: 2009 Ashes 1st Test Team Predictions
They take 18 players across to England which would give them enough room to take a number of back-up options. Who they'll be is obviously the $64,000 question.

yeah i dont think tait will even be considered, excelent T/20 bowler IMO but no way near ready at test level, at least not until he proves he can bowl for extended periods.

i dont think we can play 2 left arm bowlers, especially if we dont have a front line off spinner, and they do.
