The umpire's word is final ... but wrong
We all moan about the standard of umpiring from time to time, mostly when we've been sawn off or denied the chance of a wicket but cricinfo have had a look back through the years and picked out their top 10 worst umpiring decisions.
An interesting read and it can be found here: Umpires.
Which moves me on the main topic - tell me (us) about the worst decisions you've seen. Personally I've been lucky but have had a fair few dodgy LBWs' against me over the years, not least the one where the ball hit me on the ribs.
I've also fired a few in my time, some accidentally, one or two after arguments at tea (well, if you will drop me down the order, don't get hit on the pads when I'm umpiring ).

I can't believe that professional umpires can make such shocking decisions. In the junior levels in India there is hardly any good umpires. Once when I was playing a umpire didnt give the batsman from the other team out when he was clearly catch out and he later apologized that he was not watching what happened.

Re: The umpire's word is final ... but wrong
Just to move the subject into another area of umpiring, i'm a strong admirer of Cricket, the respect to the umpires is better than any sport. I'm a firm believer that only the captain should talk to the umpires mid-game. Saves a lot of arguements and disrespect.
Anyways, worst decision was when we played in the Semi's of the cup, i edged it to second slip, bounced twice atleast, and the slip got hold of it, but the Umpire gave it out. Ok im saying it a bit too over the top, it bounce once about 3 or 4 foot infront of him once, i was so mad that i kinda, badly, kick over a stump .................or three

I got banned for kicking the stumps out of the ground (I was a very angsty teenager, coupled with a massive competitive nature - you get the picture :embarrassed

Re: The umpire's word is final ... but wrong
I got fired twice last season, once on 49. Wss not happy, I can tell you. I missed the ball by a mile yet the umpire (who just happened to be the uncle of the guy bowling) couldn't raise his finger quick enough.
I wish I could get into the first's more often, as least they have 'neutral' umpires, still not great but a bit fairer.

you'll find incompetent umpires at all levels. i remember that umpire ashoka desilva. he used to give lbws for ball pitching way outside the leg stump. how he got into the elite panel is beyond me but im happy that hes not on it anymore.

I remeber some umpire gave many bad decisions in the India England Test series. I think he was Ian Howell.

youve got a bat in your hand, hit the umpire with it.we never have neutral umps for our games. most of them are fine but there are a couple of incompetent clowns. ive been given out caught off the helmet though my bat was no where near it

Re: The umpire's word is final ... but wrong
Hitting the umpire with bat is something new to be heard.
But i have seen umpires threatend by some local teams if the decisions is not on their favour and one match i remember one umpire was generously giving out in 2nd innings of the match just because he had to go home earlier
I have a point to ask everybody that has anybody seen or heard umpires being bribed during matches.

I would imagine you would be banned from playing if you were to hit an umpire.

Considering how corrupt the system is, I'd guess that wouldn't be unheard of at junior levels is some states.
