I have nothing against people playing country week cricket, good luck to them, I just think if you want to play you should pay your own way.
And I guarantee you that the thing holding the CDCA back is the same thing now as it has been for years. The only blokes who put their hands up for office do so out of an interest in promoting their club and making sure they get the best deal from the executive.
Just reading back through this thread the same issues are there:
Teams getting 12 points for doing nothing because the draw is uneven.
Playing games on Sundays.
The relegation/promotion system being manipulated.
Teams hiding behind washouts.
A grade cricket not being on turf.
I also notice the CDCA is about the only cricket comp in Aus not playing 20/20 games. I hear they tried to get it going, but were shot down by the usual suspects.
It is a pity that everyone in the CDCA couldn't switch comps for a season, because when you do you find out what happens in a comp with good operators in charge and a progressive administration supported by the clubs.
Although a mate of mine involved in the comp tells me that very thing may happen to the best club in the comp next year and maybe one other one?

If players had to pay their own way in Country Week no one would play. I do not think you are getting the message at all. Players have to give up their weeks wages or give up holidays to play. They should not pay at all.
Other leagues playing in Comps get Shirts, Hats, Warm Up Gear, Accommodation and Bus Travel for nothing. Castlemaine League geiving players who have earned their representative position deserve lunch each day, a shirt and hat. There is no accommodation or bus fees.
Representing the league is the highest honour an individual can achieve and ALL players should be trying to play at the best level. The standard of Country Week is higher than the club level is.
Players in last years Grand Final side: Brenton Jones, Jamie Allan, Leon Reidy, Steve Becker, Clint Alridge, Lachlan Ford, Darren Hinck and Jarrod Milsom are all players who would be in the top 10-15 in the league so your information is wrong there.
I would agree one of the main things holding back the league is one club in the league having too many people involved in League's committee. Their approach of "participation" is more important than the bettering of the league by playing 2020 and one day cricket is why the league will not reach the standards of a Ballarat or Bendigo league. Bendigo's version of 2020 being played on Tuesday nights is the best solution to introducing 2020 to the competition.
So who is the best club leaving???
Also saying that players only play Country Week to stroke their own egos is a ridiculous comment. Guys that are listed above are genuinely very good cricketers who could all play Bendigo A grade. If you are so against why dont you have a go yourself and play in the rep team or put your hand up to be on the league committee and try and improve the comp instead of bagging those that want to make it better.
