Thomson won the toss and elected to bat on another Thommy pearler.
Newcomer to the side Graham Clarke (3-21) caused havoc early on with his left arm swingers and his one handed screamers. At one stage having Thomson 3-19 with the 3 key scalps of McCoy (2), Saltalamacchia (8) and Smiljanic (2) under his belt. Smiljanic could count himself unlucky as Clarke took a one-handed gem off his own bowling to dismiss the hard hitter.
Sean O’Neill (45) and Chris Strods (42) built a firm partnership to rescue the derailed innings. Strods taking 21 overs to get to 10 before doubling his score with consecutive boundaries off Clay Nelson (1-47), one clearing the fence for a maximum. They put on 79 for the 4th wicket and took Thomson to 97 before O’Neill was adjudged LBW to Illingworth (4-47). Stephen Dahlhaus (30) met Strods at the wicket and picked up where O’Neill left off. Strods was well caught at mid-off when he skied an Illingworth delivery, leaving the Thomson Tigers precariously placed at 5-130 off 50 overs. Out come Matt Plant (61*) and the intensity from the fielders lifted and the batsmen were happy to have it going both ways. Illingworth looked to have trapped Plant on the crease before he got to 10 but was given not out, much to the disgust of the St Peter’s captain. Dahlhaus misjudged some fine work by the point fieldsman and was a foot short of his crease in trying to get a second run and was run out for a well made 30. 15 year old Dowling Shield member Jack Rodgers came and went the same delivery giving Clay Nelson his only wicket of the day. Dean Riches went back to a short one to the disbelief of the Thomson Coaches and was bowled from one that kept low from Aaron McArthur (1-35), giving him his 4th wicket of the 08-09 campaign. Thomson were starting to undo all the early work O’Neill and Strods did until Patrick O’Neill (15) joined Matt Plant in what could turn out to be an invaluable 40 run partnership for the 9th wicket. P O’Neill eventually bowled by Illingworth who broke the stump. Phil Featherston (1) was also bowled by Illingworth but helped Plant reach his maiden Thomson 1st XI 50 eventually finishing on 61*. Thomson bowled out in the 80th over for 223. In total 7 St Peter’s bowlers were used, the pick of the wicket-less bowlers being Scott Holbrook (0-27).
St Peters had one over to negate. Gavin Nelson (1*) got a single off the first delivery from Dean Riches (0-1) and Matthew Baker (0*), coming off a pair against Corio in the 1sts, successfully saw the Saints to stumps. An interesting days play waits next week with Umpire Neil Martin having to separate Thomson’s opening bowler and St Peter’s batsmen Baker after the youngster was obviously affected from some choice words from the Thomson fielders.
It is set up for an enthralling finish with 2nd placed St Peter’s looking to consolidate their ladder position whilst Thomson are looking to make up ground against those above them. Steve Illingworth and the Nelson’s hold the key to St Peter’s if they are going to get over 200 for the first time this season, while Riches, Featherston and P O’Neill need some early wickets to put pressure on a somewhat fragile middle order.

He's only 15; don't expect too much.

Talks like a veteran of the GCA.
If he was a Thommy Tiger Cub he'd be getting a stern word on not talking to the opposition when batting. After facing 5 balls and averaging a whopping 11 from 8 innings this season i think he should let his cricket; or lack thereof, do the talking.
But i suppose playing with C.Nelson every week you're bound to pick up on some bad habits.

Good call. At 15, you should be taking it all in and saying as little as possible. But if he can get some runs against you blokes, then good on him

needless to say, my 1XI career was short lived that season.

Re: GCA & BPCA match previews and reviews
manifold got alot of work of work to do if there gonna bounce back from there dismissal from gca 1's, dropped at least 8 easy chances today, very sloppy. on the other hand marshall were cruising at 1-75 and 2-110 so probably should've made more than 200. But at the end of the day avoiding an outright result that looked inevitable at 2 this arvo is a fair effort and shows a bit of a fighting spirit that may have been lacking at the bears for the last couple of seasons.

Re: GCA & BPCA match previews and reviews
NORTH GEELONG vs LARA
We arrive at Osborne Park on a reasonable day, unaware of who will be playing, informed Danny Hughes will show up eventually, North Lose the toss(AGAIN) and Lara elect to have a bat. Marvellous start by North, with Brad Scown dismissing Andy Hughes in the first over. Celebrations were short lived, as Bambury walked to the crease, the key wicket. Millard dropped him in the slips on about 2, and Cooper started to chance his arm from the other end. Luckily for the Wags, Bambury smashed one into his pad off Armistead and was caught behind for 14. The next two wickets fell in quick succession, and soon Cooper started dominating the attack, but was dropped another two times by Dragicevic and Szponar. Jason Hughes came to the crease and provided serviceable support through to the break. Soon after the break, Cooper lost his head and skied one to Lymer off Millard. The fielding picked up with an air of confidence about and Millard picked up another wicket. Parsons and Hughes attempted to resurrect the innings before Hughes was unluckily run out after a misfield(set play). Danny Hughes came to the crease after just arriving and looked to dominate the attack. Armistead was brought back on to clean up the tail and took two wickets in two overs. Lara decided to declare with 5 overs to go, in order to have an over at the North openers before Stumps on day 1. Nothing doing though, as no wickets and no runs were scored.
Lara 9-203 J.Cooper 69 J.Hughes 30 D.Hughes 36* T.Parsons 27 C.Millard 3-27 A.Armistead 3-38
A gloomy looking day for the second week, and once again a wicket fell in the first over with Sam Hall bowled by Jason Hughes. Millard came out and tried to settle things with Al Spierings in his debut 1st Eleven game. Al eventually holed out to Danny Hughes. Armistead and Millard batted until the break, just scratching around, trying not to lose unnecessary wickets. After the break Armistead got a good one off Jason Hughes and was quickly followed by Dragicevic. Lymer headed out to the crease and with Millard still there, it looked as though they would see the Wags home. However, Millards luck run out and he lobbed one to Andy Hughes off Bambury for 81. Frisch followed him, and the Scown came to the wicket on a hat trick of ducks. After looking good, Scown was caught on the boundary going for the big one leaving 20 odd runs to win, with 3 wickets in hand. Jacimovic smashed a couple but was then bowled and then Lymer missed a full toss and was bowled also, leaving Kingwell and Szponar as Norths last chance. Szponar smacked a couple off Bambury but eventually succumbed to Hughes' pace and edged one to the keeper leaving Lara 7 runs ahead.
North Geelong 196 Millard 81 Lymer 37 Armistead 24 Bambury 4-50 J.Hughes 3-67 D.Hughes 3-58
3. C.Millard 2. J.Hughes 1. J.Cooper
