Retirements/club Changes 2013/14

I'm hearing Pig and Trent Wellington both back to Riverside.

Can anyone confirm?

What is going on up at Plenty?

NOt to have a go at them, but its not sounding like they are in a great position..... Leaves a pretty big hole up there, especially after i have heard rumours of them offering the captain/coaching position to a couple of people who declined it. Now, players leaving....

Figure I'm going to cop it from all and sundry anyway, so may as well keep Plenty out of the sh*t stirring here Tongs and be open about it.

Nothing going on up at Plenty to drive players out Quinny... in fact the club is in good shape with Mick Smith as President and Greg Wilson doing a great job with limited numbers at the club. Mitch Johnson's selection as Captain is a fine one and he will get great support from the elder statesmen at the club.

My own decision was based on the fact that, given I cant captain anymore (reason I went there) because my work commitments and I am getting married in April (half my groomsmen are from Riverside)... if I can't commit 100% to cricket, when I play, I will do so with my closest mates (and thats not to say I didn't make good friends at Plenty). As for Red, he is one of my groomsmen and my closest mates and its our intention to play cricket together.

But lets not sh*t stir for the sake of it.... Plenty are winners and I learnt a hell of a lot from my experience there. We almost pulled off a miracle flag last season and I wish Mitch and the club all the best this year.

Yeah I can confirm this... Oh well what can you do? Just disappointing when a bloke calls you up personally and asks you to write on big cricket there is no chance he is leaving and has stepped down as captain purely for work reasons.

We move on and look to grow our own talent. Going to be a challenging season going forward but when you still have the most talented bat in the comp and 2 of the best bowlers I'm sure we will be more than competitive.

Sounds like someone is taking his bat and bowler and going home!!!

I am not sure that i would be disappointed in what someone asks you to write on BigCricket or not. I am sure he has his own reasons, and at the end of the day, its park cricket and 90% of us play because we enjoy the time with our mates. I would be more asking the question as to why they wanted to leave, and the diminished numbers rather than what he asked you to post on here.

Just out of curiosity, who do you deem as the most talented batsmen in the comp?

You might even get a run in the ones this year?

I would think he means Mitch Johnson... I think it is AbsoluteGlam personally.

Jason Henderson - If not for Paul Baker a true DVCA legend, Mernda CC would have been a bottom 4 side in Money Shield side for the last 10 years, surely you cannot have a go at another club that I assume you know nothing about without casting eyes over your own backyard and history of poor performaces.

No need to hate others that are more successful than you because they work harder at it.

I think most people would agree that Mitch Johnson is one of the most talented bats in the comp Tongs, you wouldn't agree??

Hopefully the clubs hand will be forced to finally play me in the ones.... Overdue to be honest... :p

If I were Plenty I'd be happy with the deal to be honest.

Yes Pig is a good player but it also means seeing the back of Wellington. Let's look closely at the deal:

PROS
Lose Wellington
Free up salary cap space, used to sign Mitch as capt on a lengthy deal to secure him at the club for years.

CONS
Lose Pig

List managment genius at work by the Power.

He is quite obviously a talented cricketer, but i wouldn't call him the most talented. He probably has the most potential, and would have thought he might have gone to District to try his luck down there.

Its astounding really that you didn't get the captaincy. You must have pissed someone off up there.

I think he did.

2 years, going down as a 16/17yo is not having a really good crack though.
He still played a lot 1st XI cricket and played in the Victorian Under 17 side, so its not as though he spent his time scratching around in the 3's and 4's like most kids that leave the DVCA

A lot of time and effort goes into playing district cricket, quite a substantial amount more than even the most dedicated of DVCA players. It is a hard road and if you don't LOVE it you are better off at club level.

I actually think the best age to go is about 18/19 unless you are a Ricky Ponting level 8 year old where test cricket is close to a certainty already (certainty may be a stretch, but you get my point). By that age you should've played a fair bit of ones cricket and be performing at a reasonable level there.
