Subbies Thread

Improving in which way. if your talking from an admin point of view, you may need to think again, CSB had a stinker from an admin point of view this season. IMO.
Well he made right on that one but most associations are jokes from Premier Cricket down.
The only way out of it is a AFL style commission to run the game in Victoria.
You have Premier Cricket that has 18 clubs that put out 4 teams a week = 72 sides and Sub District that currently has 28 Clubs now wants 4 more new clubs to go to 32 clubs =128 sides .
As you look at just at those 2 competitions well over half of them are not up to it.
Then you look at the good ol VTCA it’s going no where while an old women and his wife run it.
Then over at the ECA the competition is run a bit better then above competitions named above the DDCA is a well run competition like the ECA.
Then you have the CSB who’s only problems are attracting umpires for all grades on both days and the drip that runs it Anderson.
Then the MCA who are currently playing there GF atm with Alec Khan who’s been in charge of that competition for some time that has no problems attracting umpires and new clubs that’s why it’s a boutique Competition .
That’s why Cricket Victoria needs to consider an AFL style commission.

CV can "consider" as much as it likes, but it does not have the bucketfuls of cash incentives that were thrown around by the AFL in getting the present structure in place. How does CV get the existing metro comps to disband their competitions some of which have been in existence for a century or more? As to the VTCA, if CV was to offer VTCA clubs an alternative comp run by it I believe it would be widely accepted. However, just to take over running the 64 club VTCA alone would be an expensive exercise if CV's outlay in running CSB can be used as a guide. This illustrates what a huge and inexpensive contribution the persons now volunteering their services to running competitions make to the well-being of our game.

Have heard from a reliable source that Subbies proposed expansion plans for next season, have been put on hold for 12 months due to the current global crisis we are all experiencing and that the next season may not commence until after Melbourne Cup and consist of all 1 day games, what are everyone's thoughts on this.

Think that would a smart thing to do but watch this space local football especially the VAFA and the SFNL are trying to get there seasons going with finals going into October and normally wickets need to get renovated and ready for play which takes between 4 and 6 weeks to get something up

As you would know with your turf experience

Cashleigh with the cheque book out - Blyth, and 2 Pearsons recruited. Would have to be $25k spent there. Not so tough times down Warrigal Rd way.

Interesting to see the balance, clubs with $$$ going to be well off.
Potentially an absolute feeding frenzy from players, if you're impacted by income reduction from work, earning some $$$ from playing sport will be more beneficial than ever.

In fairness, don't think they have had a new recruit since Mick Allen. Might be more a case of having stored up some "acorns" and now investing

Think they had a pom but no big names, would this be to replace McGuiness or would he be continuing?Haven't heard much else,Willy have re-appointed McMinn understandably, anyone know any other recruitment news?

Sturrock a one pointer too, that will make for a unique attack with a left arm orthodox in OMalley and a left arm chinaman, wouldn’t see that too often, would expect Sturrock to get a stack of wickets
