Given a large proportion of cricketers will not have had 2 jabs by the commencement of the season and the present pattern of lockdowns at short notice, are we destined for another season of one-dayers?

It will be interesting to observe the effect of the inability of clubs to bring in "imports'' due to Covid -19. Taylors Lakes, for example, blamed their poor on-field performance last season on the inability of players to return to Australia. It may be the case clubs will attempt to improve...

    VTCA Season 2019/20

I had a quick scan of the VT's constitution and it would seem it is drafted in a manner that would make it difficult for a complete change of the guard at an AGM. I will study it more closely over winter.

I certainly did know him well and Laurie was my first captain when I played for Sunshine many years ago. I also got along with him very well and recognised the very significant contribution he made to cricket in this area. I will pay my last respects, as I did for his brother Frank.

There are too many clubs concentrated in the inner west in the context of the supply of junior cricketers. Demographics has played a part in this plus so many alternative activities/pastimes these days. Moving from one competition to another will not overcome these issues>

    VTCA Season 2019/20

Anyone have any idea why Strathmore and Spotswood have transferred to the subbies? I seem to recall being told the president of Strathmore and the VTCA's executive did not see eye to eye but don't know if that played a part in the move.

No doubt about it--in a final get them on the board if you win the toss. Often the case the team chasing falls behind the run rate and, even though wickets may be in hand, the pressure starts to build.

    VTCA Season 2019/20

And what do the rules say in the event only one of the 3 days is completed due to adverse weather -- does the side that won the only match win the premiership or is it the side that finished higher on the ladder at the end of the home and away?

It is not just due to the fight to avoid relegation. The fact is over in the West there is only one Premier club. CV shelved plans to expand in the west and it my understanding both Footscray Edgewater and Geelong strongly opposed another club being established in the large gap between them.

    VTCA Season 2019/20

I understand play was not possible due to water damage by a burst pipe on the playing surface. Aberfeldie will, I guess, pick up 3 points they may not have otherwise

You are absolutely right, money has a lot to do with having on-field success. The introduction of the points system helps somewhat to provide a level playing field, but a major weakness in it is that there is no limit to the amount a club can outlay. This means the monied clubs can outbid the...

I did play subbies in the old days as above, but cannot see it reverting to just firsts and seconds. I simply could not imagine the clubs agreeing to do so, and nor do I think it will come up for debate. But, I do share your concern that the existing model in this day and age is not conducive to...

Would CV still be in a position to offer $500K all up towards the management of the proposed 5 regions? The cost of it running CSB should have given CV a reality check on the huge value to community cricket of the persons giving of their own time to club and local association administration...

Do the subbies wish to add more with the intention of gaining enough clubs to offer 2 divisions, thereby allowing a promotion and relegation system? An attraction in bringing Port Melbourne back into the fold is that it has 2 turf grounds. This requirement may be a limiting factor in the subbies...

I wish them well in the subbies, but it is a risk given it does not have the critical mass to allow a promotion and relegation system. One only has to view the results of Taylors Lakes who entered the subbies without ever having played in the VTCA's Senior Division, to appreciate what can...

    VTCA Season 2019/20

Maybe a heavy fine by the VTCA, if the club is as slack as last week, will be imposed, if other games commence and at my pitch play cannot start because half the table is again unprotected. It is becoming very difficult to get the current crop of players to do anything around the club. The...

    VTCA Season 2019/20

Could have played on the pitch I prepared but it is just as well for the club matches were called off as it only covered 4 of the pitches on an 8 pitch table. Too much work and too heavy for the players to fully cover the pitch as required by the comp apparently. The players are so ignorant they...

I have been told the relationship between the president of Strathmore and the VTCA's admin is toxic and I recall it expressed interest in being admitted to the subbies. It is second on the Senior Division ladder, is very well run and would be a real asset to the subbies if it came across. My...

My recollection is that, as well as not having made the Senior Division, the subbies were desperate to replace Sunshine. Please regard the following as hearsay only, but I have been told the club, surprise, surprise, had a strained relationship with the VTCA's admin. By the start of next season...
