    2015/2016 Barclay Shield Thread

With fantastic weather predicted over the weekend, maybe we can get back to talking about cricket.

    2015/2016 Barclay Shield Thread

This is quite simple, and I am amazed that so many people have a view on it. The DVCA simply followed the rules that have been set up by the competition and voted on by the clubs. Somewhere along the line of history a rule needed to be written to ensure the safety of players and umpires is...

Agree, if they win the flag this year, then surely that side would have to put up a bulk of players for team of the 10 years.

But even at 12 we play SOME teams twice now. There will be more clubs coming in from the outside.

    2014/2015 Barclay Shield

Great idea, and excellent out of the box thinking. Not revoloutionary, but creates a fair draw and others can come and get right in to the finals. To make up for the loss of 2 days of cricket, surely a DVCA only T20 comp could be scheduled over two weeks, played on main grounds on each Saturday...

    2014/2015 Money Shield

Agree with a lot of what you say Delboy, and it is increasing hard to attract junior numbers, but the comp will tell us that numbers are actually up across the board, and will be backed by CA who are saying numbers are at a record high. Maybe it is more to do with geography and changing...

    2014/2015 Barclay Shield

Agree, it should be to an 8 team grade. Elite competition, playing each side twice, home and away, fair draw, people would be following with very close interest and rivalries would be elevated to a much higher status.

So as you say, Council handouts and being aligned with a football club has been a great benefit to you.

Not sure how you could possibly complain about this. Your rooms have been upgraded, your nets / training area has been upgraded, and now your ground is being upgraded (not for the first time in the last 10 years). Some clubs aren't as lucky to have this level of support.

Depends how you look at it I suppose. A lot of sides could be happy to draw Riverside in a 1 day game!!! Malone gets going it could be interesting #fasteritcomesfasteritgoes

100% in our first 11. Don't just look at the last couple of years, speaking from experience, when kids come on the scene, it can take the focus and time away from things like commitment to work / sport / social life. Has a raft of leadership experience to offer as well.

Yes, please, as you seem to have access to the Eltham email address, that would be great. Not at all antsy, we think we have picked up a quality bloke that is looking for a challenge.

Simply asking a question Tongs, not sure I was upset at all. Note that there are no clearances 'to' Eltham, keeping the boom recruits under wraps for now?

Are you having a dig at a bloke Tongs for moving clubs to go up a grade and challenge himself???

Interesting to see Scott Gibbs name on the list - returning to Riverside for a bag of Allen's snakes (all that's left in the cupboard) And Bundoora with a whopping 11 new players.
