Aussies have a short break whilst the T20 Champions League is on then they also head to India for a 7 match ODI series

Tour Schedule:

25 October SUNDAY 1ST ODI MATCH AT VADODARA
28 October WEDNESDAY 2ND ODI MATCH AT NAGPUR

2 November MONDAY 4TH ODI MATCH AT MOHALI
5 November THURSDAY 5TH ODI MATCH AT HYDERABAD
8 November SUNDAY 6TH ODI MATCH AT GUWAHATI
11 November WEDNESDAY 7TH ODI MATCH AT MUMBAI

Aussie squad
Shane Watson (NSW, 28), Tim Paine (TAS, 24), Ricky Ponting (TAS, 34) (c), Cameron White (VIC, 26), Michael Hussey (WA, 34) (vc), Adam Voges (WA, 30), James Hopes (QLD, 30), Nathan Hauritz (NSW, 27), Brett Lee (NSW, 32), Peter Siddle (VIC, 24), Mitchell Johnson (WA, 27), Jon Holland (VIC, 22), Shaun Marsh (WA, 26), Doug Bollinger (NSW, 28), Ben Hilfenhaus (TAS, 26)

Main highlights in the squad are Shaun Marsh is back, Jon Holland is named for what would be his debut if he plays and David Hussey has gone from reserve batsman to nothing after a wasted 4 day stint with the side at the Champion Trophy even though they have lost another batsman

Commenting on the squad, NSP Chairman, Andrew Hilditch, said:

“We’re really pleased with the progress the ODI squad has made recently. We do have four players unavailable for this tour due to injury. Michael Clarke is continuing his rehabilitation from back soreness and Mike Hussey will be the vice captain for this tour. Brad Haddin continues his rehabilitation from finger surgery, following the injury he picked up during the Ashes series, and Tim Paine, following a fine ICC Champions Trophy, is selected as wicket keeper. Callum Ferguson continues to consult specialists over the knee injury he picked up during the ICC Champions Trophy final and is not available for this tour. Nathan Bracken is also unavailable due to a knee injury.

“Shaun Marsh returns after recovering from hamstring injury, having been an important and successful member of the one day side before that injury.

“Jon Holland is in the squad as we wanted to take the opportunity to give a young left arm finger spinner exposure both to the Australian team set up and Indian conditions. He has impressed in the recent Australia ‘A’ series against Pakistan and in his time at CA’s Centre of Excellence. If an opportunity arises on tour we feel he will equip himself very well at international level.

“The NSP is delighted with Australia’s recent success at the ICC Champions Trophy, which came off the back of a very solid ODI series performance against England in England. To reclaim our number one ICC world ranking was recognition of this squad’s recent achievements but we recognise we have to continue to improve and to establish a winning culture within this young group of players on tough tours, like this, to India. We expect the Indian series to be extremely testing, but the young squad is looking forward to the challenge.”

Re: Australia in India

Glad to see Marsh back into the squad as well as Voges keeping his. Interesting to see Holland there, looks like he's gone ahead of Krejza, Doherty and Heal in the order after Hauritz.

Not a bad squad though, Bollinger's selection puzzles me a little. No Brett Geeves?

Re: Australia in India

Geez, what a meaningless and overlong series. Trying to their best to kill One Day Cricket.

Bollinger replaced Bracken in the CT, so maybe they wanted the left armer or just wanted to keep their NSW quota up

As for Holland I think the comments show it is more an experience trip than anything, they have rarely changed their side over the last few series as seen by Voges and Hilfenhaus sitting on their ass for 2 months

Re: Australia in India

NSW quota nothing. Bollinger is the obvious choice for Indian pitches, some of his best performances have been when the SCG has been at its most lifeless.

Total snoozefest though. I doubt I'll watch any of this unless it's incidentally.

Of course. I think Cricket Australia and the BCCI have a deal where both sides play seven ODI fixtures against each other in India. It's purely a money thing where both cricketing bodies can make a bit of money in a short space of time.

Seven games is completely over the top, three would have been good or maybe five at a stretch. This many is ridiculous, similar to the NatWest Series in England.

If the last game is a dead rubber I could see Holland debuting as both teams will take their foot off the pedal. That would also mean Marsh, Voges and Bollinger might get games giving the others a rest before the home summer.

Re: Australia in India

Just on Brett Geeves, I notice in the current Shield match he has bowled 14 no balls and even managed 3 wides in a first class fixture, could be a reason he gets overlooked

Re: Australia in India

Im actually looking forward to this series, Australia and India ODI games are always interesting. Should be totally different to the natwest series because India are actually have decent at ODI cricket and their crowds are mad fer it.

Also can't wait for our batsmen to belt that sharma lad around the park.

Fair dinkum, I'm not sure how this bloke gets a game. He is a complete spud.

Re: Australia in India

Yeah im surprised how far Sharma has fallen, I was really impressed with him when he was on debut here in 07/08 and I remember he bowled very well when we toured India in 2008..

I thought he had the ability to be one of the best seamers in the world to be honest.

Re: Australia in India

So did I. I really liked the look of Sharma when he was over here for his debut. He and Tendulkar were the only two I like from that team really because I have grudges against the rest of them.

I competely forgot about this series. They just sneak up on me.

I don't see how people are complaining about more cricket. The only thing I have about more cricket is that the player work load is too much.

If you really like cricket then why are you complaining that you don't like watching more cricket then an insignificant 3 match series? It takes more effort and skill to win a 7 match series.

Re: Australia in India

I think the Indian Australian ODI series will be a pretty good contest to be honest, FFS the two best batsmen in the world are playing in the Punter and Tendulkar, you have India's spinners and you have our bowlers like Siddle and Lee.

Someone along the line is going to spit the dummy.

On a different note, anyone remember Ponting giving the big one armer to the ABC COM box after winning the SCG test against India.

Helmet in hand he holds the one arm pose, then follows it up with a quick fire double fist pump.

Get that up ya his saying.

Hope to see more of it.

Re: Australia in India

I'm betting a complete smashing by the Aussies.

Even if they lose they will have the mental victory for sure.

Haha well I don't care who wins. I am tipping Australia to have a vengeance, and when that happens not only stumps fly, but heads do too.

Even if they lose they should be satisfied enough with the thought of getting some good wickets and hitting some good sixes.

Re: Australia in India

I'd rather D Hussey in the squad ahead of Holland as our batting is suspect without Clarke and Ferguson especially on Indian pitches.

Re: Australia in India

I am now betting a very close series. Changed my mind.

Has Clarke been good on those pitches over there?

IMO I think he has been out of form but still scoring very well. He has never looked settled and seems to make his scores on luck lately. He is just not scoring as freely as he used to, definately not up to at least a strike rate of 80, should be more.

If he gets his mojo back he should be in the side, otherwise I see this as a blessing that he isn't.

Re: Australia in India

No Rohit Sharma? He was easily India's best bat when they were over here last year. Chopping and changing does not a good team make.
