Australia v Sri Lanka T20 Series February 2022

AUS: Aaron Finch (c), Ben McDermott, Josh Inglis, Glenn Maxwell, Steve Smith, Marcus Stoinis, Matthew Wade (wk), Pat Cummins, Kane Richardson, Adam Zampa, Josh Hazlewood

SL:Pathum Nissanka, Danushka Gunathilaka, Charith Asalanka, Avishka Fernando, Dinesh Chandimal (wk), Dasun Shanaka (c), Chamika Karunaratne, Wanindu Hasaranga, Dushmantha Chameera, Maheesh Theekshana, Nuwan Thushara

Match Two:
Australia 6-164. Sri Lanka 6-164. Yes a tie that had to use a SuperOver to determine the victor. Josh Hazelwood nailed it and Australia won.
Haze was MOM but new boy Josh Inglis also starred with the bat. I can see the West Aussie tackling the Smith white ball anchor role in the future then using his power game. Cant see Stoinis or Maxwell hanging around much longer. Time for a changing of the guard. Richardson looks stale.. no rhythm. Where are all our specialist death bowlers.. Tye, Ellis is back from injury and is the future. Any good deathies in the BBL worth a look at.

Match Three:
Australia bring in Ashton Agar and Daniel Sams both of whom had big games. A terrific bowling performance by our black demons restricting the Lankans to 6-121. Proved at least 30 short as the target was chased down in the 16th over... giving Australia the series.
Did Starc bowl the worst ball ever in a T20 Int. tonite?

I'd rather have the test players playing shield cricket instead of hit & giggle to help prepare for the Pakistan series.

Mate that is a no brainer. CA need a complete clean out. We want people of vision and competence running our national sport not those after the quickest buck..

Match Four: Australia is resting our frontline Test attack. Jhye Richardson will finally get to bowl a ball in anger for what seems like months. Talk is Aaron Finch will bat down the order. First time he has done this in a white ball international?
Boys in black have elected to bowl..

Agar has yet to concede more than singles in his two matches. And against good players of spin. Pretty impressive.

Has a big chance now to cement his batting spot. We know he is a clean hitter and sweet timer.

I think Kane Richo's days as our premier death bowler are near the end. Just gave the Lankans a big sniff to win this game after a sloppy last over. Jhye Richardson and Nathan Ellis look to be our best bet to finish off the innings in the future.

Australia have been alright without being spectacular and have done enough in each game to get the win. Sri Lanka have shown glimpses but have come up short each time although the 2nd match finished in a tie and came down to a super over.

One point of concern is Aaron Finch's form, hasn't past fifty is his last 12 T20I's which is not ideal with the World Cup to be held later in the year. Another point of talk is Ashton Agar who has bowled exceptionally well in the games he has played in this series and has opened the batting in the past two games. Seems the side is not really sure about where he should bat, can certainly hit a ball though when required.

Ashton Agar who has bowled exceptionally well i
He is an automatic pick in the short formats due to his bowling so why not make the most of his batting too. He has the makings of a very handy all format all rounder imo and evidently in CA's too.

Sri Lanka avoids a clean sweep at the death. Selectors need to look at several problems with this Aussie side. Batting and bowling was inconsistent. We never dominated any match because of this. Changes have to be made with new faces to join Jhye Richardson, Josh Inglis, Daniel Sams after the next World Cup.

Agar is an exceptionally good white ball spinner. The issue is Adam Zampa is the first choice white ball spinner which leaves Agar with limited opportunities if they decide to play three quicks plus one or two all-rounders. Agar either gets a game if the deck has turn or if they opt to play two spinners anyway.

Not quite sure he's opener but we would a bit more exposure at that position to make a definitive call. He can certainly bat down the order and whack a few if needed as we've seen him do it before.

Finch failed again in the last game so would perhaps be a little nervous. McDermott had one score but you could say he's probably not quite up to it at this level. Personally I don't think Steve Smith should be playing T20I cricket as there are better options available.

I would expect the side for the T20 World Cup later in the year will be similar to the one at the World Cup late last year with perhaps a few changes. Inglis as the keeper gives the side another dimension and allows them to pick another batter who could bat anywhere from four to seven in the order.
