Australian ODI XI

Australian ODI XI

I know it's a little early to be thinking about but i just need to ask a question about the make up of Australia's ODI team against South Africa and New Zealand later on in the season.

The area that has me stumped is the spin bowling. The only options I can think of to bowl are Nathan Hauritz, Beau Casson, Bryce McGain, Jason Kreja and Xavier Doherty. I don't think any of these guys are good enough for ODI cricket so I didn't include them. I also think that Andrew Symonds and Michael Clarke are more capable ODI bowlers then these guys if we really need to add some spin.

1. Shaun Marsh
2. James Hopes
3. Brad Hodge
4. Michael Hussey (VC)
5. Michael Clarke (C)
6. Andrew Symonds
7. Luke Ronchi
8. Brett Lee
9. Mitchell Johnson
10. Nathan Bracken
11. Shuan Tait

Re: Australian ODI XI

Marsh
Watson/Warner/Hopes
Ponting (c)
Symonds
Clarke (vc)
Hussey
Haddin +
Hauritz/Heal
Lee
Johnson
Bracken

I disagree - Nathan Hauritz and Aaron Heal have been in good form so far and I think one of them should get the spinners spot.

Although I think the selectors will stick with Mat Hayden I would prefer to see either Watto, Hopes or Warner in the side. Preferably Warner because of his age and ridiculous hitting ability.

Any particular reason Ponting and Haddin (Ronchi's form has been pretty average so far) didn't make the cut?

No Ponting...what? and what has haddin done wrong? and mcgain is an economical and wicket taking one day spinner, if he makes a successful return from injury should be a shoo-in.

1. Watson/Hopes
2. Haddin
3. Ponting
4. M.Hussey
5. Clarke
6. D.Hussey
7. Symonds
8. Johnson
9. Lee
10. McGain
11. Bracken

Haddin up to opening? I think hes much better off between 4-7 (Preferable 4 or 5) as the new balls with all it's swing may cause him so trouble.

Re: Australian ODI XI

I am going to put it out there , Cam White will play the series as the "spinner" (using that term very loosely of course). But his overs will be < 7 max and will be more there for his lower order striking of the ball because, sort of kills me to say this, can strike a ball a fair distance.

Am hoping to see both Hodge and Marsh get a crack over the duration of the tournaments and am expecting big things of these guys.

Bracken to be back swinging it a mile and terrorising all comers.

Re: Australian ODI XI

I don't think they can put Cam White in as a "spinner". If they are going to put him in the team they should show some courage and put him in as a batsman and put someone else in as the spinner Hauritz, Heal etc.

But the selectors are cowards full stop.

Re: Australian ODI XI

what about matt hayden?.i think he might find some form going into the ODI's.
If it a squad of 21....

My 1st XI
1.Matt Hayden
2.James Hopes
3.Ricky Ponting(c)
4.Michael Clarke(vc)
5.Mike Hussey
6.Andrew Symonds
7.Brad Haddin
8.Mitch Johnson
9.Brett Lee
10.Nathan Bracken
11.Bryce Mcgain/Jason Krejza/Nathan Hauritz?Xavier Doherty

Others in the squad
12.Cam White.
13.Ben Hilfenhaus.
14.Dave Hussey.
15.16.17.All the spinners mentioned.
18.Shaun Marsh.
19.Shane Watson.
20.Adam Voges
21.Luke Ronchi(back up keeper).

I wouldn't mind instead of a spinner, if they used Ben Hilfenhaus.I rate him higly off a bowler.

Thoughts?

Shane Watson is easily in our best ODI XI. He is a fair way ahead of Hopes, and should open the batting. Hopes can be 12th man. Also, I wouldn't mind Symonds at 4, Clarke 5, Hussey 6. Also, while I wouldn't mind Doherty getting the nod, I'd like to see Cameron White at 8, instead of McGain, Krejza or Hauritz, with he, Symonds and Pup sharing 5th bowler duties (Watson's bowling being used almost as a full-timer's). Otherwise, include another specialist paceman, such as Hilfy.

Re: Australian ODI XI

Actually yer.i do agree with u, that Watson is better than Hopes.
i don't think Cam White shud b batting at 8,if he bats 4/5 at the vics,he shudn't be that low,and i don't rate him much of a spinner.
I think that any of the spinners will get smashed part from Bryce Mcgain,he is a top spinner. As we have seen Krejza n Hauritz do leek alot of runs.
i would rather see Hilfy come in,instead of a spinner,nd i wudn't mind if watson comes in for lee,if lee doesn't improve over the nxt test matches,as the 3rd seemer.
I'd rather the bowling attack Johnson,Bracken,Watson/Lee,Hilfy n Hopes.

Thoughts?
