Bird guilty of chucking

New South Wales fast bowler Aaron Bird has been suspended from domestic cricket after being found to have an illegal bowling action. Bird was reported three times during the course of the domestic season by the umpires and after a series of tests were done at the AIS biomechanics institute in Canberra, it was found that some of Bird's deliveries were not within the 15-degree legal limit for bowlers.

Bird now has 90 days to remodel his action and can appeal the decision after the 90-day period. He must then demonstrate that his action is within the laws of the game before being allowed to compete on the domestic scene. Bird was forced to change his action is 2007-07 after similar concerns were raised.

Another blow for New South Wales. Lee and Clark are out injured and with Bollinger and Hauritz on the tour of South Africa it leaves very little in the cupboard for them. They will have to reply on Mark Cameron, Beau Casson, Dom Thornely, Grant Lambert, Burt Cockley and co to get the job done for them with the ball. Mitch Starc has come into side as a replacement and Josh Hazlewood may be a chance to play with only a handful of Shield games left.

I always thought he was a chucker. Can't believe it has taken this long to get sorted out.

Exactly what I was thinking, the dirty chucker.

Victoria should be given the KFC T20 cup by default

The 'chucking' rules are a joke.
I'm sure it's not intentional, but his bouncer looked dodgy in televised Ford Ranger Cup games last season.
All you have to do is get wired up, and then bowl at 95% as most of the time it is the 'effort ball' that has the problem.

The sooner they work out how to measure the flex from actual match footage, the better.

Re: Bird guilty of chucking

i think the umpires should decide on field, like they did when they no-balled murali in perth. the slight amount that the arm is bent doesnt add that much of an advantage and its not as if they are going to get a wicket every over if the 'chuck' as they are. murali IMO has a completely legal action, and so does bird. its when you see bowlers baseball pitching that is the problem. as long as all kids learn at an early age to keep their arm straight there shouldnt be too much of a problem.

Re: Aaron Bird reported for dubious action

New South Wales fast bowler Aaron Bird has retired from first-class cricket, a career which saw him spend a lot of time in the headlines for his dubious action. Bird played six first-class matches for the NSW Blues but made his name in the one-day arena where he played 25 matches, taking 34 wickets. However, Bird is more renound for his bowling action and was reported numerous times, the last of which was in January this year. Bird was suspended once for his action but remodelled his bowling style only for him to suffer further reports by match officials.

A sad end to a reasonable career. Bird was a great one-day bowler and although he has proved expensive at times, he was certainly a danergous bowler in one-day matches. With Bollinger probably not going to play many games for New South Wales next season because of national committments and with Brett Lee's future plans unknown at this point, a lot will rest on Bracken, Cockley and Hazlewood to carry the Blues in the Ford ranger Cup next season.
