I think it’s not just that clubs have 2 bowlers.. but watching 2 guys run in and bowling a treat for 10-12 over spells is actually a treat to watch. Batsman have to be patient and not play the big shots.

More one day games would be good IMO. Teams need to be more dynamic, saw a few sides this year struggle in the shorter format. It's all well and good bowling long spells outside off to a 7-2, but it really becomes more of a habit than a skill for a bowler. Good cricketers will go well in both.

Yes, the elite tend to find a way in all formats/conditions. Agree with that.

For the structure next year can we go back to Shield and Shield reserve.

Barclay Shield
Banyule (No change)
Diamond Creek (No Change)

Heidelberg (No Change)
Macleod (2nds up from C Grade) - Would be tough as they ended up 2nd bottom, but were not too far off the mark.
North Eltham (No Change)
Research (2nd stat up instead of being relegated to C Grade)
Riverside (No Change)
Rosanna (No Change)
Bundoora Park (Up from D Grade)
Rosebank (Up from D Grade) - Finalists in D Grade
Only Macleod and the winner of the Money Shield final will have to change their 2nd Grade division. Not a big task IMO

4th Grade for Riverside would being very strong (but their 5th grade team was under strength).
This draw would stop some clubs 3rds playing against some clubs 5ths.

Don’t mind it mate. Imo it should always be like that. Makes it a lot easier for fixturing too. However I did notice in BS and MS where applicable, 1s and 2s would play the same clubs on the same weekends if in the same grade. So I can’t see why they wouldn’t just have it like how it used to be! Good shout DV

So I assume in that proposal there is no relegation/promotion or do you want to go back to the old way where if you're 1s won the flag it also promoted your 2's?

Teams who get relegated, usually have a similar standard 2nds.
Lower Eltham and OP’s 2nds didn’t set the world on fire.

would love to see first and second XI sides play each other.. one home and one away. No reason the games can’t be 70 overs each instead of the 80.. can still start at 1pm and be done the same time.
Probably the best way to blood some of the younger players into better level senior cricket.
Wonder if there would be support for 4 shield grades. 8 teams each shield. Have 2 seasons where bottom 2 get relegated and winner comes up.

4 Shields works from a draws perspective, ie 7 one dayers and 7 2 dayers.
But try and recruit in 4th Grade (That is what the 4th Shield grade is effectively)

That is a great point, but let’s be honest.. if you’re paying anyone apart from a coach in Mash Shield or below, you would need to look at the club itself.
Develop the juniors there, there will still be juniors regardless. Your club rises the ranks together, when you get into higher shield grades then look to recruit.
I think the best structure is 8 teams in shield grades playing everyone in a 2 dayer and a one dayer, but if that is the case, the T20 competition must go.

Judging by Underarms post, the reserve grades need to return. Barely any change at all. Some clubs are going to be strong in reserve grades, and some weaker, but guess what, that's sport.

Makes absolute sense… we are losing the club aspect of having a social drink with the opposition after matches which is bloody important
I am still yet to find one club that opposes having Reserve Grades for 2nd XI, make it happenDVCA
