New Zealand travel to England for some tour games and a three match series in June 2022. The series is England's first since the resignation of Joe Root as captain with Ben Stokes stepping into that role while Brendon McCullum will coach against the country he represneted having taken over as coash of England's test cricket side earlier this month.

New Zealand have played a couple of games to start the tour, they drew against Sussex at Hove in match heavily interrupted by rain. The Kiwis' second tour was against the First Class Counties XI whch saw the FCC score a seven wicket win having bowled New Zealand out for 148 in their second innings having trailed by 115 runs on first innings.

The squads and fixtures for this game are below.

England (First and Second Test): Ben Stokes*, James Anderson, Jonny Bairstow+, Stuart Broad, Harry Brook, Zak Crawley, Ben Foakes+, Jack Leach, Alex Lees, Craig Overton, Ollie Pope, Matthew Potts, Joe Root

New Zealand: Kane Williamson*, Tom Blundell+, Trent Boult, Michael Bracewell (first test only), Devon Conway, Colin de Grandhomme, Cam Fletcher, Matt Henry, Kyle Jamieson, Tom Latham+, Daryl Mitchell, Henry Nicholls, Ajaz Patel, Tim Southee, Neil Wagner, Will Young

3rd Test: England vs New Zealand at Headingley, Leeds (11am local time, 10am UTC)

Certainly a series I'm looking forward to. It'll be interesting to see how England go after the change of captain and coaching team in the past couple of months against a New Zealand side which is a fairly strong one. The key for mine will be each side's batting line-up and how well they go on the pitches here which will no doubt be conducive for seam and swing bowling, particularly England's given their poor Ashes effort and their loss to West Indies 1-0 in their most recent series.

The first test gets underway on Thursday at Lord's at 11am local time.

England: Alex Lees, Zak Crawley, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow, Ben Stokes*, Ben Foakes+, Matthew Potts, Matt Parkinson, Stuart Broad, James Anderson.

New Zealand: Tom Latham, Will Young, Kane Williamson*, Devon Conway, Daryl Mitchell, Tom Blundell+, Colin de Grandhomme, Kyle Jamieson, Tim Southee, Ajaz Patel, Trent Boult.

The first test got underway today. New Zealand won the toss and chose to bat which has not looked too good thus far. New Zealand are 9/111, James Anderon and Matthew Potts have done the damage with four wickets each. Jack Leach was named in the eleven for this game for England but was substituted out of the game after concussing himself while fielding, Matt Parkinson is his replacement.

New Zealand were bowled out for 132 in their first innings, Colin de Grandhomee top scored with 42 not out while James Anderson and Matthew Potts finished with four wickets each.

England began well in reply, reaching 0/58 before having a monumental collapse which included 5/8 in 4.3 overs to reach 7/116 at stumps, still 16 in arrears of New Zealand's first innings total. On resumption today, England were bowled out for 141, a lead of nine runs. Zak Crawley top scored with 43 while Tim Southee took four wickets for the Kiwis with Kyle Jamieson snaring three.

New Zealand started their second innings a short time and are 1/6, Wil Young fell to Anderson for one after edging behind to Ben Foakes.

Hard to believe but we're into the first session of day two and the match analysis is 21/279.

New Zealand were 3/38 then 4/56 but have recovered to 4/156. Both Daryl Mitchell and Tom Blundell have scored half centuries for the Black Caps to led the fightback and now lead by 147. Matthew Potts has two wickets for England while Anderson and Broad have one each.

Much better batting from these two who have put on a century stand. The bowling from both sides has been very good so far and coupled with some ordinary batting led to two very low first innings totals from both sides. The pitch itself doesn't seem too bad to bat on at the moment.

New Zealand reached 4/236 on day two, Daryl Mitchell reached 97 not out while Tom Blundell was unbeaten on 90. Unfortunately for the Kiwis, they collapsed to be all out for 285. Mitchell scored 108 and Blundell 96. Stuart Broad and Matthew Potts were the main wicket takers with three each.

England wobbled in reply, slumping to 4/69 which should be have five for a little while later when Colin de Grandhomme bowled Ben Stokes. However, de Grandhomme overstepped which gave Stokes a reprieve which he took advantage of in making 54 before falling on 159. That brought Ben Foakes to the crease and he and Joe Root got to stumps at 5/216, needing another 61 runs for victory.

England came out positively on day four and knocked off the runs without further loss to ensure a five wicket win. Joe Root scored a second innings century and passed 10,000 test runs to claim Player of the Match honours while Foakes remained not out on 32. Kyle Jamieson did the damage for New Zealand with 4/79 but the Kiwis came up short in the end. England takes a 1-0 series lead into the next game at Trent Bridge in Nottingham which begins tomorrow.

England have named an unchanged side for tomorrow, Jack Leachhas passed his concussion test after a compulsory seven day break so will take his place in the side. Colin de Grandhomme is out of the series after suffering a heel injury so New Zealand will make at least one change. Henry Nicholls should be back into the side and they may be tempted to bring in Neil Wagner for Ajaz Patel.

England win the Second Test and the series due to a white ball like rampage by Bairstow and Stokes on the final day.
I have to say this was a poor Test cricket wicket. Was way too in far in favor of the bat. Never a fair contest between bat and ball. I'd not be giving a batsman my Man of the Match award. Rather a bowler. The ageless James Anderson was the Pom's best by a country mile. So my MOM. Betting Jimmy is planning another Ashes battle next year.
