No they are not. There are 20 first-class teams in England, as opposed to 6 in Australia, so the talent is diluted, and you end up with a bunch of teams with a few quality cricketers (Quite often internationals or Kolpaks) and a few nuffies who get a game because there isn't 220 cricketers in the country who are good enough for first class cricket. Nearly every single English commentator/former player will agree with this.

thats completely right. i was trying to be nice to everyone.

but the thing is, englands population is over triple that of australia. and australias players are spread very far and wide. my dad for example couldnt play for queensland under 19s when he was young because of the simple matter of distance. england is the size of tasmania so distance and opportunity is no worry, therefore everyone gets a chance, good or bad, not some people get the chance.

their teams to population ratio is pretty much the same as australias. if australia were to have 20 domestic teams the quality would be grade standard. there are that many teams in england to offer everyone their chance.

plus they have many players from other countries to boost the qualities of their teams. you could go from facing a pretty disgraceful club bowler to a bowler like glenn mcgrath. if that doesnt throw you off then i dont know what will.

but saying that australia is the place to play to get selected. county is there for the off season if you need to cement your place or provide further evidence.
