Ford Ranger Cup Thread 2009/2010

Re: Ford Ranger Cup Thread 2009/2010

Well Queensland doesn't have 10 bowlers to start with. Last season we were left with the bowlers 5 choices down the list after retirements, injury and state changes. Now our first bowling line up is the least experienced in the country yet nearing some of the best. The Australian selectors should take a leaf from the Queensland selectors for once, full credit for them for the past two years.

Well quite obviously the only times you watch the Bulls are when they are playing the Vics, and last time I checked no other team was going around beating them either. :)

Every other team has given us a challenge, even SA, the Bulls were just disgraceful

Victoria has the right team balance, a few blokes in the peak ages of 24-30, a couple of senior members in Rogers and Hussey and some young guys thrown in like Hastings, Wade and some bowlers

The Bulls are still inconsistent. Just remember from only two seasons ago they now have only three players that are still in the team, and one of them doesn't play full time.

The selectors and captain IMO have done extremely well to get the Bulls in their first season to get second last year and to win the FRC. Simpson is a great captain and has really aided the young guys to come through. Plus their picking of some older experienced bowlers have really helped the young guys come through. Who would have thought picking a 35 year old that hasn't played many games at state level would be a good idea? :D And then bringing back another slightly older player that played years ago but then never did again, yet put in great figures year in year out? And then bringing in two very youngsters who have been a bit hit and miss but that's equalled out by players that know what they are doing. I wonder what team I have heard this in before :p

Re: Ford Ranger Cup Thread 2009/2010

That is that having older, experienced players and creating a hierachy amongst them all makes them play more competitively and as soon as one faulters even the slightest, there is always someone to back them up.

I believe that having Hussey in the team aided Clarke, Watson, Symonds, North and probably someone else to a huge degree just from his aura on and off the field, with the experience and knowledge for the game, despite playing not a great deal of matches.

Then you have to remember that the future is still to come. So you have to pick to have people their for the long run. This is what Queensland have done, have some very young bowlers and batsman in there, and have the remaining players and then picking some players that have played at the level before but were dropped many years ago. They are picking 35 year olds who have played only 4 or so matches. Now Simpson has the knowledge that there is a new, raring youngster ready to really step up and do his stuff, but if he runs out of luck due to his inexperience he can whip him out of the attack and say put on Rimmington who is older and you know from many, many seasons playing cricket that you will get what you want from him. Then when you think the time is right, let the young guy have his fair share again.

This has made the Queensland attack have a 'transistion period' after nine players left the club, of only a few matches. They didn't just worry about the future, but they worried about the present as well.

I commend them on that.

Re: Ford Ranger Cup Thread 2009/2010

Tassie finally get the breakthrough with the in form Hussey out for 93, still looking at a big chase though Victoria 3 for 206 of 36 overs.

Re: Ford Ranger Cup Thread 2009/2010

Victoria 7 for 326.

Tasmania making a fair go of the run chase at 3 for 166 and keeping right up with the required rr.

Re: Ford Ranger Cup Thread 2009/2010

What an innings from Travis Birt 97 of just 77 deliveries, game pretty much over though now with 9 wickets down.

I'm inclined to agree.

Hopefully though it's not at the expense of the longer form!
Injuries, retirements and international selection have destroyed that but luckily still have the players capable of playing 50 over cricket, just lacking players who know how to knuckle down and get a big score

Also worried about the penetration in the bowling lineup this week, no real strike bowler yet effective in limited overs games

Atleast by building a good lead before Christmas if we struggle for a couple of games in the Shield it wont hurt our home final hopes

Re: Ford Ranger Cup Thread 2009/2010

It is looking a tad thin. Then there's the worry of a 5th bowling option!

Go for it Tassie, if ever you've got a chance to get big Shield points...

Re: Ford Ranger Cup Thread 2009/2010

Yet another WA batting collapse

At least Marcus North is still in I suppose.

6 for 134.

Re: Ford Ranger Cup Thread 2009/2010

WA managed to scratch out a score of 228, at least it's a target..

North had a good innings getting 85 off 102.

Re: Ford Ranger Cup Thread 2009/2010

How about O'Brien's catch to remove Nofke?

It's a tricky target, looking for some good bowling.
