Surprised that 'Iron Knob' South Australia isn't in that list Boris.

Re: List some funny sounding words

Haha I tried my best!

What about cosinusoidal? Hows that for a word that is basically redundant?

Somewhere in the northern United States (I think it was Minnesota, but I'm not sure), there are two neighbouring towns called Fertile and Climax. Many years ago, a woman from the former passed away in the latter. The local newspaper devoted their front page to this story with the genius headline "Fertile woman dies in Climax"

In Texas (I think), there is a small town called Bugtussle, so-named because, during the 1930s when the residents were looking for this collection of roadside buildings to be Incorporated (which over there is official recognition of a town as opposed to an isolated roadside filling station/diner), they were struggling to think of a name, until one resident gazed into the corner of the room and saw two beetles apparently fighting. It says a lot for the lack of creativity in that community that this event led to that name being chosen!

Some New Zealand ones:

Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateapokaiwhenuakitanatahu, Hawkes Bay, New Zealand
Whakapapa Ski Field, Manawatu/Taranaki, New Zealand
Whakatane, Bay of Plenty
Sukamonkis Tetsikul, South Island
Waikikamukau, Southland, South Island (Why kick a moo cow?)
Binggabonggabollocks Avenue, NZ
Titwangaflaps Street, NZ
Erewhon (Wanganui-Manawatu, New Zealand)
Waipu, Northland, NZ
Whakarewarewa, Bay of Plenty
Whakamoa, Canterbury
Tutaekuri River, Napier, Hawke's Bay (meaning Dog Sh*t)
Mount Tarawera, Bay of Plenty (meaning burning female genitals)
Shag River
Urewera, Bay of Plenty (meaning singed genitals)
Shag River, Southern Otago
Pigroot, Southern Otago
Cape Foulwind, West Coast

Every bloody town out here in the wheatbelt end with 'in'. Loads of places down south it's 'up', I think they are all aboriginal names.

I can honestly say that listening to the office antipodean pronounce the town 'Clitheroe' for the first time is priceless. Yes he thought it was a wind up.

I recently went out to visit a friend who lives at Pakenham Upper. Seriously it it a Melbourne suburb. I'm left wondering why it hasn't been changed to Upper Pakenham.
