Moving clubs?

Hi. Im an 18 year old player who has been playing for the same club since the age of 10. As a junior I was very promising but havent made any progress. I was told at the age of 15 to change clubs because I was not getting a chance at my current club, but I did not. Now I am older I dont think I can progress my cricket carear much futher so should I just stay at my cub or could I still make something of myself as a cricketer if I moved?

Re: Moving clubs?

Depends on a lot of things to be honest. Have a word with your current club, explain your current thoughts and see what they say. Most clubs are reluctant to lose promising youngsters, especially those around the 16-22 age range.

If you don't get the answers you're after then start to look around. See what other clubs are in your local area and get in touch with them. See what they can offer in terms of junior/senior cricket, what coaching they have and so on.

No harm in looking but make sure if you do move that it's for the right reasons.

Re: Moving clubs?

I play for Bolton Indians CC in the Manchester District Cricket Association. I dont want to move because I know alot of good people there and I also work behind the bar. But if it was to futher my cricket carear then it would be for the best.

Re: Moving clubs?

You have to weigh it all up. You're not going to be short of clubs in and around the area you live but as you said, you have links and roots where you are.

Talk to someone, it's the best way and at least you should be able to find out where you stand.

Re: Moving clubs?

What do you do, are you an all-rounder, a bowler or a batsman. Surely you can't write yourself off at the age of 18? I'd never played a game of cricket in my life till 3 years ago and I'm now statistically the best spin bowler at my club and possibly the best out of all the bowlers and I'm 49 tomorrow! The difference is I work at it constantly and am willing to learn from anyone and it's paid off. Maybe you should specialise in some area of cricket and make it so they can't afford to leave you out of the team?

Re: Moving clubs?

What Ketz needs to ask himself is he getting the coaching and opportunitys he needs, and if he approached his club and mentioned this would he be able to get there opportunitys.
If the answer is no then he must move, i played at a club for 11 years 7 years in the 1st were i was a battler but i gave 100%. I just recently changed clubs and it was the best thing i did i made 550 runs last year and i don't regret it i have also learn't more in 1 year at this new club then i did in the past 5 at my old club.
A fresh change can be great.
