Re: sack the Australian selectors, vote

ok, been thinking about it, this would be our best side for england:

1 Katich
2 Hughes
3 Ponting
4 Clarke
5 North
6 Watson
7 Haddin
8 Hauritz
9 Siddle
10 Bollinger
11 Hilfenhaus
12. Clark

I like Clark, but where to put him...

Maybe Hughes at number 3 or 4 and watson opening with every one moving down 1 spot below hughes at 4... I know, he's an opener, but surely he can bat at other positions.

Re: sack the Australian selectors, vote

One thing that annoys me is people calling for 30+ year olds to be put into the team.

Hodge - Should've had his chance again a long time ago, but injecting a guy with about 2 years left in him isn't the right thing to do.

McGain - Again, short term solution.

We need to identify youth and expose them, even giving them a taste. I'd go with players under 28 years of age. Putting in 30+ year olds is a stop gap solution and in the long term will screw us over, instability in the team isn't the thing we need when trying to get guys like Siddle, Hughes, Hilfenhaus etc. To come of age.

Just my $0.02.

i like to have even amount of both. i like to endorse playing the best player possible for the situation, not matter the age. sometimes, though, it is the best situation to select a not full competent youngster for the long run. as long as the team is not filled with them. you need both players with experience and years behind them and youngsters that can become the experienced.

at the moment i rate hilfenhaus, siddle, hauritz, hughes and north the upcomers. is it right to have half the side as young 'uns when in ten years time they will all retire and leave a huge gap in the side. i would like just one or two more players above 30 and/or with plenty of games under their belt just to assist the young up and comers. that is one reason why hussey is still there after all this time, there is no one better to teach the newbies. his attitude towards and his experience in the game is unmatched in the australian team and sure as hell helps the newbies.

as for the other places not filled by the newbies they should be whoever is best at the time. if that is mcgain, then so be it, he has a possibility of a couple of years, thats enough time to bowl a few sides over. and hodge, perfect fill in player for injured players. should be on tours when not playing domestically.

Re: sack the Australian selectors, vote

Another test series the selectors have cost us... How much more of this can we take?

Re: sack the Australian selectors, vote

My answer is a great. big, resounding YES!

i know this might sound insane, but why not put some recent players (i think Shane Warne would make an excellent selector, anyone else agree?) that actually know a thing or two about cricket and winning matches.

by the way who are the selector's for the Australian test side?

All I know of is Jamie Cox, Andrew Hilditch, Merv Hughes and Rick Ponting has a big say.
I loved bid Merv as a bowler but having a say in the test team is ludicrous.
He is a little bit retarded and should stick with the plasticine.

i think jamie siddins is a selector also isnt he ??, if thats the case, its wrong, surely ex test match players with experience in different countrys should only be considered for selector duties, cox, siddins and hilditch didnt play many or any tests did they ? and with merv, love him as you may, he doesnt come off as the most intelligent chap now does he, even with the specticles on.

All the mentioned people were excellent players in their own right but to be brutally honest they have not performed so, " see ya later boys".

Re: sack the Australian selectors, vote

Dont really think they should be sacked, contrary to popular opinion, being a selector involves a lot more then just hooking up 2 days before a test and deciding the team. You just cant sack merv, if you sack merv then you have to sack the lot.

You might want to sack Hilditch, since he is the chairman, but then one of the remaining 3 members will become chairman and another guy drafted in.

On a side note, not many people want to be a selector because it involves going around to just about every domestic game every summer and travelling away on tours. Most of these guys have other interests or career paths, like Border, who quit for this reason.

Its not that easy to find guys willing to do the job.
