We need Lyon to stand up here and now and own this last day. He has had a moderate series. Not his first.

Pat is doing a Josh today. Great economy: 8-5-6-1. Is he going to break this game wide open and win it for us?

Our bowlers have managed to tie Pujara in knots but given Gill far too much freedom.

About time the pitch started to misbehave in our favor.

Paine's captaincy is pretty poor Craig - he's not applying enough pressure with his field... it's astonishing he's not placing two close in fielders either side of the bat when Lyon is bowling.
Can't see India getting 120 per session & unless Paine becomes much more inventive looks to be a certain draw.

Not astonishing mate. Like I say and have always said .. Lyon is accurate but has little penetration because he is a defensive bowler. So a defensive field as India has shown that he can be lofted safely whenever they attack him. Ashwin and the rookie Sundar are also offies but they mostly attack the batsman.

Pete it is cricket such as we have seen in this entire series that can only be good for the survival of the Test format. White ball cricket just does not get the senses and competitive juices flowing or the nerve ends jangling like an enthralling Test cricket contest does.
Absolutely Craig - test cricket is far more intriguing than the white ball stuff... in tests it's really about mental toughness & all the little battles that go on within the 5 day game.

Pete this deck is the easiest batting Gabba deck I can recall. Its saving grace may be the cracks which have now opened and will assist our quicks either by the variable bounce or mentally by sewing doubt into their batsmen minds.

spot on mate.

Same old story with Starc . He lets off the pressure that Cummins, Lyon and Hazlewood have built. Have always said Starc is out attack's weak link. Constantly bowling an out of form bowler is my biggest criticism of Paine. Even Green looks more likely. Least he does not offer freebies.

Agree what you're saying about Lyon - but by having a fielder either side of any batsmen it's going to create much more pressure on them to force them into a mistake... if Paine doesn't start trying different things to try & create wicket taking opportunities this test is going to be a draw.
this situation reminds me of Williamson's captaincy.

Yeah, it doesn't look too difficult to bat on... hope those cracks help your bowlers out Craig.

So frustrating to have this man in your attack when you are trying to win a match as he gives away a boundary almost every over. He has just served up his second 6 to Gill. Get him off Tim now!! WTF Starc just gifted them 20 runs in one over This aint effing T20 Starc..

The other thing is a Cummins/Hazlewood partnership is far more potent than the other. So why isnt Paine pairing them more.???

Yeah, bowlers need to bowl accurately in pairs to keep the pressure on... as you say Craig give Green a crack, he can't be any worse than a very erratic Starc.

An even 200 for India to win now. Talk about building the morale of your opposition. CA need to sack Starc for the upcoming Saffer tour .

Gill is going to be a top young batsman... but that was an awful shot he played to lose his wicket.
With a new batsman in hope you can start chipping a few out Craig.

A good knock but while we tied up Pujara we gave Gill more freedom. Not sold on him yet mate. He tends to play away from his body. Needs to be more compact. Also needs to cover his off stump better. He will be found out on a deck that is doing something.

Finally Lyon strikes.
Betting India send in Pant ahead of Rahane as Starc's diabolical spell will give them hope they can chase down this target.
No it is Rahane. Surprised.

Josh is peppering Pujara with some lethal bouncers. Dont like that he is being hit.. rather he was nicking off to catchers.

Doesn't take much to tie up Pujara, all he basically does is play defensive shots 🙂 ...yeah Gill needs to be more compact,
think he's only 21 so he'll probably work on his weakness of playing away from his body too much etc, but it's whether batsmen learn from their mistakes is what counts.
