Let's be real here, he is not going to replicate the same stuff, statistically, that Gillie did with the bat. Also, he is not liking the comparisons.
Richie Benaud made the point when he was commentating. People expect when that there is one champion player who retires, the one who steps in is always going to be compared against them and would almost be expected to replicate them. As he said, it doesn't happen.
Maybe occassionally it does, but it's about as often as even the best bowlers' career strike rates.
It's right that people were on his back for a bit, it was not a great start, but you would hope that the sensational ton he made against the Kiwis will kickstart his international career. Let's see if he can make up for lost time.
