Victorian Premier Cricket - 2010/11

The Pennant Commitee has decided to only give Fitzroy and Hawthorn only 1 point after winning in 20 overs. I thought 20 overs constituted a game. Fitzroy won't be happy, they now miss one day finals. Doesn't seem right to me.

Gloury from Essendon quit the club after batting #9 in the one dayers, now playing at Preston I believe?

So what is the go with points for Northcote and Geelong with their tied game, considering 20 overs wasnt reached.

Lets hope clubs dont hold functions like they do at Melbourne Uni. Heard a distrurbing story with a player involved now not wanting to play at the club.

Everyone knew beforehand that you had to get two lots of 20 overs in to get a game and the points. The same rule applied, except for it being 15 overs (which is the minimum for a game to be played at that level, rather than the 20 for district), in the state games, where we've taken our rules from. It seems ridiculous that we don't take the same rules as the competition above us, which implemented the format.

Anyone whose been to the Students' dress-up pub crawl will tell you that it's a ripping night, they love their gas down at the university. They only just got their liquor license back, so hopefully there's not too much in that.

Rumour is that Fitzroy will now get their points back and make one day finals!

What happened at Uni?

Pennant Committee have decided the following

In relation to the following matches, both of which constituted a minimum 20-overs each, the winning sides will be allocated 5 points each:

1sts Haw-MU def Essendon
2nds Camb Magpies def Prahran

For the following games, all of which entered Stage 2 (the third phase) of the match, the results have been determined by reference to the Deciding Score Sheets as required under the rules.

1sts Fitz Donc v Dandenong (points – Fitz Donc 1, Dand 4)
Scores: Dand 3/56 (20) 5/90 (25.4) v FD 1/78 (20) Deciding score: 83

2nds St Kilda v Casey-SM (points – St Kilda 1, Casey-SM 4)
Scores: Casey-SM 5/48 (20) 110 (33) v St K 3/57 (20) Deciding score: 88

2nds Melbourne v Ringwood (points – Melb 1, Ring 4)
Scores: Ring 4/95 (20) 4/105 (23) v Melb 5/99 (20) Deciding score: 103

2nds Fitz Donc v Dandenong (points – FD 5, Dand 0)
Scores: FD 4/73 (20) 5/86 (23) v Dand 4/48 (20) Deciding score: 84

Well now that we have the 'hit-and-giggle' games out of the way, yes, I know there are even more sillier ones to come next month (!), we are down to some serious cricket starting this round with the 2-day matches. Some interesting match-ups and we'll surely see how the real strengths of some teams are. Probably the two standout matches are the Dandenong vs. Melbourne and Carlton vs. Northcote matches , while another one that catches my eye is the Casey South Melbourne vs. Prahran encounter.

Premier Cricket - Round 6 - 2-Day - 6Nov & 13Nov. Selections Bolded.
Richmond (1-1-2) vs. Footscray Edgewater (2-1-1)
Geelong (3-1-0) vs. Melbourne University (0-1-3)
Carlton (3-1-0) vs. Northcote (2-1-1)
Camberwell Magpies (1-1-2) vs. Frankston Peninsula (1-1-2)
Casey South Melbourne (1-1-2) vs. Prahran (2-1-1)
Essendon (0-0-4) vs. St KIlda (2-1-1)
Ringwood (2-1-1) vs. Hawthorn Monash University (1-0-3)
Dandenong (4-0-0) vs. Melbourne (2-1-1)
North Melbourne (0-1-3) vs. Fitzroy Doncaster (2-1-1)

Let's hope we have two good days of weather for some entertaining cricket.

Possibility of more washouts this weekend.

Going to be interesting to see the effect that the T20 games will have on the runs and wicket standings in the competition.

With today's washouts, the only winners are Footscray and Melb Uni who took 1st inns points last week. Melb Uni goes up a few places, but the Doggies jump to 2nd place

While no-one wants to miss a day of cricket, the rains probably have come at the right time for a couple of clubs, or conversely the wrong time for at least two.

While Footscray Edgewater and Melbourne University already had 1st innings points the ones that probably suffer are Northcote who had Carlton by the "short and curlies" and Melbourne who should have easily chased down the remaining runs against Dandenong. While Camberwell Magpies, St Kilda and Ringwood had huge totals that their opposition probably wouldn't have reached.

Ah well, that's cricket !

too true - oh well, some interesting games coming up next week. Footscray v Geelong - a real test for the young Doggies, plus St Kilda v Ringwood and Melb v Fitz/Donc - battle of the heavyweights. Then we're just under halfway done - hardly seems like we've had any cricket though !!

My thought, Barry, is that there should be seperate averages/awards for the three forms of the game that are now being contested. The T20 games will certainly impact on the averages, as the 1Day games have done, especially now with the break in the innings.

Some blokes bat in different positions in the different forms of the game and of course, depending on the situation bat differently. And then there are the bowlers who are restricted.

What do others think ?
