This chap has to be the most overrated international batsman of the current era. Only Brendan McCullum of NZ would offer a serious challenge.
I am starting to tire of the nonsensical hype behind an opening batsman who undoubtedly has one of the worst techniques in world cricket and who has a failure rate in the order of about 10:1 in all forms of the international game. For every one time he manages to score he then has at least 10 failures.
Aside from a century against an average NZ team and one against an appallingly bad Indian team his record this season has been pitiful. His record overall is not impressive either.
1. Take away those two centuries and he has scored a total of 116 runs in 8 innings at test level - an average of 16 odd.
2. His ODI record is equally bad - 2 scores over 50 in 16 innings and a poor average of 20.68.
3. A slightly better 20/20 record in the earlier stage of his career but since May 2010 his 18 innings have yielded 358 runs at an average less than 20 with eights innings in single figures.
When will the Oz selectors and the Oz public finally wake up to the fact that he is a chopper and select some one with some technique and stickability.
A gunner if ever there was one.
