Young boy bowling short

We have a 11 year old in our junior team who is consistently bowling short. No matter what we tell him, he can't pitch the bowl up. He is a fast bowler.

What problem could he be having? Are there any excercises he should he do to get him to pitch the ball up?

Tell him he has to run a lap and do 50 push ups every time he bowls a short one :p

There is no easy way for an 11 year old to bowl full so just emphasise the effort that the bowler must do to power the ball forward rather than into the pitch. It is all about helping him realise how to bowl full and what it feels like rather than emphasising that he has to bowl full.

Re: Young boy bowling short

he is trying to put more effort, thats why he is bending his back.
tell him to do some back and stomach exercises(core exercises).
probably hes pulling his non bowling arm a bit too early.

Best not overload an 11 year old with too much technique though - best to help him sculpt out the natural lengths with his natural action.

Re: Young boy bowling short

one question ,does he bowl on full lenght pitch(22 yards)?
if so,whats his height?
if he's less than 5'6'',then better let him bowl on 16 yard pitch first and gradually increase the pitch length(16->18->20->22)
as he gets older.
i hope this will fix ur problem,if u want to sculpt him naturally.(i.e. without much technique).

Re: Young boy bowling short

You could try just getting him to hold the ball further out in his fingers, like further away from his palm and more on the ends of his fingers. This should mean he releases it earlier in his action and so bowls it fuller. Just an idea.
