City Of Moorabbin Cricket Association 2011/12

The Golfers host Mackie in the first unofficial finals encounter which promises to be a mouth watering encounter. A loss to either team means the end of any finals aspirations. This will be hard and uncompromising cricket.

Interesting to see that Mackie has dangled a hook; who will bite? Who knows Brett with his immense experience at Marantha, Mordialloc and the UK, a current Longmuir and T 20, premiership player, it sounds like a perfect fit. Are you interested? There I go again with the Chinese Whispers.

How the Panthers would have loved such a batting display earlier in the season. It is in their own hands now so if they can overcome the ‘foreign legion’ then finals beckon. They will have to be at their very best to have a chance, and hope their Stars are in alignment, but you never know.

The Beach boys finally showed some of last seasons fight and made the Hoops work hard to get the points. They come up against a revitalized Cowboy outfit which have a little self belief and will be desperate to account for one of the darkest days in their history last season at Beach Boy Park, when they surrendered and made 15 runs with extras being equal top scorer with 3 runs.

The Royals season is in tatters and the end of the season cannot come quick enough down at Bertie’s Reserve. The Hoops have had a poor season by their standards and cannot afford to trip up, but can still make the finals. They are on a roll and will take the Royals to the cleaners at Bertie’s.

The Juggernaut were anxiously looking at the score board as it got closer and closer to the target, but the Sky Blues just fell short. The Spiders overcame the Heighters not without a few nervous moments, and have now all but guaranteed their first Longmuir finals appearance. Coach Haley takes the Under 21’s into the final on Sunday so he has had a very good season, and I would be flabbergasted if some turf clubs are not closely looking at his performance. (There I go again with those Chinese whispers!)

This could be the preview of the Preliminary Final so both sides will be keen to give a good account of themselves. Spiders bowling versus the Juggernaut’s deep batting line up. The Juggernaut will want to be on their guard as the Spiders are on the move.

Burger and a few of his lower order accomplices made the Juggernaut sweat there for a while last week. They just fell short but they will be too strong for a fragile Chelsea Heights. At 1/49 chasing 149, the really should have given a better account for themselves. The Sky Blues will win and win easily and all but consign the Heighters to Woolnough for 2012/2013.

Spongebob just making sure he got another wicket for the averages to end the match. Well done SB. Now for the Ommies. This promises to be a very entertaining match with a lot of experience on both teams roster. Hopefully we have a high scoring run fest.

Ommies got the wobbles and did everything to lose this game. Westars batting is still questionable, and they don’t have the depth or money that others possess, but they have the heart and the good old working class resolve to fight out matches, and you have to respect that trait. In what is another unofficial semi final they should repeat last years actual finals result.

Hampton United put up a fight against the Botanists and at one stage Bell and Dixon would have the Botanists brains trust scurrying for suggestions to break up the partnership. The Hampton boys still have a chance to avoid the dreaded relegation as they come up against the Juggernaut and the Hoops and then end the season against the rampaging Wash Ups. The Hoops look like they could be vulnerable so it will be an extremely interesting end to the season to see who stays up, percentage notwithstanding.

Speaking of relegation, the Royals come up against Mick’s Burra. Coming off a win against the Hoops the Burra will be full of confidence. The Royals can’t buy a win and the Juggernaut match still sticks in the Royals craw. Best chance that the Royals will have to get up and celebrate a win.

The Cowboys have sprung back to life and now playing with a little purpose and resolve and take on the hapless Hoops. They overcame the Royals but nearly blew it as they proceeded to lose three for none but they composed themselves to get up.It as been a terrible season for the boys from Brighton; homeless and lacking the depth to compete. The Cowboys will continue on with their good form.

The Botanists travel to the leafy surrounds of Brighton and will take on Cluden who have held their own this season. The Botanists will win but heed a warning from Hamptons resolve which could have ended in a shock upset. They need to get into finals mode and start treating the remaining matches as rehearsals for the finals and lift their intensity.

Rnd - 9
Machine - golfers are improving but still 1 to 2 years away from being serious contenders.
Uniting - how far,
Vandals - at home
Gold caps - this will tell how good the spiders are.
Union - this is normally a close encounter with the egan shield up for grabs, hoops too much to lose, Kuz to ton up.
Heights - at home should be too good, two blues out of their comfort zone and inconsistant.

Wooly
ANA - surely couldn't lose to micks mob ????
West Bentleigh - rumour that the hoops are bringing back some artillery, could surprise.
Uniting - although the new recruit for the westars looks good, will need to perform with the bat.
Gardens - just a training run.
Wahington P - Ommies are feeling the pressure coming into the finals race.
ESBC - how long can united hang on, merge or die ??????

how long can united hang on, merge or die ??????

Ridiculous notion. They've got juniors and field 3 or 4 senior teams. Struggling in a grade of cricket doesn't necessarily mean a club will die or needs to merge. Look at Southside, Shamrock & East Bentleigh Central. They field a 1st XI down in D & E Grade.

Love your whispers clocker, Hales has been at the spiders longer than most coaches normally are, if he was at a club like the hoops, he would have been sacked by now, they have perservered with him and he deserves to have some success, as do the club.
They have done a mini uniting and acquired a couple of imports by opening up the vault, this has made some difference and well worth the investment.
Good luck to Hales and the 21's, lets hope the gods are smiling.

He is a long haul coach no doubt. Great work ethic and loves his cricket. I really thought a couple of years ago he had achieved as much as he could with the playing list, but to his credit and the club and the players they have taken the next step. The Spiders have to be Preliminary final candidates (as long as they don't implode in the next three or so games) and when you get to that stage anything is possible. I for one would love to see the Under 21's get up for him.

Very true,he puts just as much time into the under 21s as he does for Carnegie,he is a great coach and an even better bloke! Hope we can get up for him and the CMCA

Pull your neck in clocker, you started by talking un found truths n I asked you to put your money where your mouth is to back up your comments........which to no surprise you have not done. Then I asked you to state your alliances n once again through ignorance you failed to answer my question. You have opinions but can't own up n be honest when asked questions that requires answers!!
So it's all one way for you clocker, add selfish to the list n now you come on here again playing more games, not bothered about the dribble your writting anymore you have shown your true colors to everyone who reads this forum.

Clocker a selfish insecure individual who has nothing better to do then pot clubs doing better then he's with innuendo n gossip which are unfounded, also affraid to own up which club he supports!!

Well done to the CMCA U/21s making the final. Good Luck. Also well done to the U/12 Mitchell Shield on winning the final. Great effort. All rep sides did extremely well.
A big one coming up is the Vic U/18 State Championship final on Monday 23rd January at the MCG. South East Bayside Breakers vs Southern Pioneers. Everyone in the cmca should be proud of these boys as they started their cricket in the cmca.

Josh Manning (Captain) - Kingston Heath C.C.
Josh Drummond (V-Capt) - Bentleigh Uniting C.C.
Comrey Edgeworth - Kingston Heath C.C.
Josh Slater - Kingston Heath C.C.
Alex Bychkov - Omega C.C.
Matt Supree - Mackie C.C.
Peter Cassidy - Washington Park C.C.
Liam Tonkin - Beaumaris C.C.
Matt Davis - Beaumaris C.C.
Jak Jowett - Beaumaris C.C.
Lincoln Edwards - Elsternwick C.C.
Adam Hutton - Hampton C.C.
Erish Uthayakumar - Chelsea Heights C.C.

Just a big congratulations to the South East Breakers winning the U/18 Championship at the MCG last Monday. A fantastic game of cricket with a lot of support from players in the CMCA going to the game and watching their mates play and cheering them on. There were two more boys from the CMCA playing for the Southern Pioneers.
Jack Taylor - Washington Park
Trent Cody - Bentleigh Uniting

Southern Pioneers were bowled out for 193 in the 48th over. Trent Cody making 65 and Jack Taylor 16. For the Breakers Adam Hutton 4/27 off 9, Jak Jowett 2/35 off 8, Matt Supree 1/24 off 5, Matt Davis 1/30 off 10 and Josh Manning 1/41 off 10. In reply the Breakers made 8/195 and won with 9 balls to spare. Josh Manning made 51, Lincoln Edwards 47, Comrey Edgeworth 21. Jak Jowett 14 and Matt Supree 10 put on 17 and got the boys over the line. Jack Taylor took 1/32 off 9. Adam Hutton was named Man of the Match. Josh Manning 292 runs @ 73 and 11 wickets @12.8 and Dylan Quirk 283 @ 47 and 9 catches & 4 stumpings were named Players of the Championship.

Hopefully we see a lot of these boys go on with their cricket and make good careers at Premier level and maybe State level.

Pup, give up Clocker is his own man & will never reveal his luv for ANA or Union???? (PS- Pup stop posting after a skinful!!)

Not sure what his going on with this plunge on the Heighters. Just got off the phone with Tom Waterhouse and he didn’t want to touch the Chelsea Heights-v-Centrals match. After reading Brett’s post he did add that he believed is a certainty for the Mackie job.

Not one ounce of accountability or integrity in your whole body clocker, you have been found out pal! It's a pleasure a minute for you when you read this forum, the more you see your name the more mess you have to clean up.

My tips for round 9 :

Mackie - a key match to decide which team keeps its finals hopes alive
Bentleigh Uniting - they just keep winning
Elwood - in a toss of a coin job
ESBC - it will be a big test for the Spiders, but ESBC will win just
Brighton Union - batting strength will get the job done
Hampton Central - a win will avoid relegation for them

All teams that win the toss will bat - does that get me a bonus point if it get it right !!!

Good luck to all.

My Tips - With one final position up for grabs and also avoidance of relegation, there are some fantastic games this round.

Kingston Heath v Mackie Obviously whoever loses is out of the finals, so it's a vital game. Golfers at home - just. It will be a great contest throughout the two weeks.
Le Page Park v Bentleigh Uniting Uniting won't stumble at the pointy end of the H&A season.
West Bentleigh v Elwood Really tough one to pick. West Bentleigh may have a bit more depth. When in doubt, pick the home team.
Carnegie South v East Sandringham Boys Club Another great contest. Big finals rehearsal for the Spiders to see how they stack up against the almighty Juggers (who have quietly gone about their business as usual).
Bentleigh ANA v Brighton Union Union are creating momentum at the right time and need to continue their run to keep fourth spot alive. A loss here will end their finals campaign.
Chelsea Heights v Hampton Central Heighters by a whisker. Another massive game for both clubs.

Interesting run home for Le Page, Kingston Heath, Mackie and Brighton Union.

Le Page and Kingston Heath have very tough draws with both playing ESBC and Bent Uniting. They need to find one win over these two teams to keep in the running for fourth place and I can't see that happening. So, I can't see Le Page in the final four or Kingston Heath (even if they beat Mackie this round).

This is the way I see it unfolding. Bearing in mind that I struggle to tip the current round correctly let alone forecasting three!

Still, it's interesting to see that if Mackie lose to Kingston Heath this round, their finals hopes may depend on a win against the Spiders in Round 11. With fourth spot coming down to percentage against Brighton Union.

Though the bottom line is, Brighton Union need to win all three games and Mackie only have to win 2 out of 3 to decide fourth spot on percentage. Of course, if Mackie win all three, fourth spot is theirs regardless.

I see Mackie winning 1 of the next 3 and Brighton Union (with their relatively easier draw) coming home with three wins to take fourth spot outright on points.

I hope that's made things as clear as mud!!

Club Round 9 Round 10 Round 11
vs Points vs Points vs Points
Le Page Bent Unit 27 Hamp Cen 33 ESBC 33
Kings Hth Mackie 33 ESBC 33 Bent Unit 33
Mackie King Hth 27 W Bent 33 Carn sth 33
Brigh Union Bent ANA 27 Chelsea Hght 33 West Bent 39

Big inclusion for East Sandy down the grades tomorrow. Could be a very handy "pick up" if he gets through and is fit for the finals campaign.

Longy
Mackie - Buddha to carry the boys home on his dodgy back.
Bentleigh Uniting - enough said.
Elwood - toss of the coin, but batting depth should get them over the line.
East Sandringham - just feel like Carnegie Sth are a little ahead of themselves.
Brighton Union - keeping the finals race and relegation battle interesting.
Hampton Central - as previously stated, been fairly consistent without getting the results. Upset won't surprise though.

Wooly
Highett West - to shut the door on any relegation chatter and kick off the 50th year celebrations in style.
West Bentleigh - find a bit of momentum.
Moorabbin West - toss of the coin. Uniting's 2nd XI tend to struggle when challenged.
Aspendale Gardens - the party boys will get tested here.
Washington Park - Ommies still searching for an opener to go with the green sticker.
East Sandringham - Belly will be rapt to have Dixon helping him out.

Round 8 Preview
Union over Elwood just (Something tells me this will be a most fiery contest with Elwood suddenly playing to avoid the drop. One cannot select Marshall’s boys, but do not be surprised if they post a more than competitive total against Union’s pedestrian attack. Much may derived from the toss of the coin and if The Hoops can put runs on the board through the likes of Pothitos and Kuzma, then they may just do enough. Not tipping them with any confidence though).Le Page over the Golfers by a whisker (Another crunch game that could clearly go either way, but one gets the feeling that the Panthers will see this as a game they must win and the six point buffer that Kingston Heath holds makes it a true ’12 pointer’. When in doubt wisdom says to go with the home side so I select Le Page with much caution. Oshan De Silva to prove the difference).ANA over West Bent just (Crucial fixture that both clubs will see as winnable, but ANA’s form is clearly better pushing Le Page all the way and beating Mackie in recent outings. Keith Biggs has had a fine season and as long as he keeps Chopper Reid at bay will not be troubled against West’s ‘second stringers’. The Cowboys will look the winner at some stage of the match and expect massive fluctuations with Betfair. However, lack of depth from the home side will prove costly once again).ESBC over Centrals comfortably (Only complacency could oust the Juggies who look certain to clinch the double chance. Centrals have been better of late but will be no match for boys from Chisholm Reserve. Mark Devereaux to make a big score).Uniting over Mackie easily (Bent Utg will lose a game one day, but it unlikely to be this season and the Machine are most unlucky that they meet the all conquering men from Centenary Park this round. Damian Britt is due for a score so I will select him at odds for the high bat).Spiders over Heighters easily (Carnegie along with Kingston Heath have been the big improvers this season and expect them to hand no favours to Brad Lockhart and his men. It is a good sign for the Spiders that they were able to win without Noombie and Scott Handley bowling fifth change, so how could you select against that).

Round 8 Review

5/6 (30/48 cumulative) to continue my good run, however, being let down by the Royals after their poorest batting display for quite some time was disappointing. Full credit to the Cowboys who are almost safe from the relegation mire due to their healthy percentage, but need one more win to be sure. As expected, The Beach Boys were more than competitive against the Hoops, but reasonable efforts are not what Elwood have in mind as they visit Victory Park this week needing the six points more than ever. Speaking of competitive outfits, it would be remiss of me not to mention the valiant efforts of Centrals against East Sandy. They arguably would’ve beaten anyone but the top 2 with a true ‘team performance’. Similarly, Mackie were hardly disgraced in their pursuit of Uniting’s mammoth total, Dale and Craig Park contributing to the chase. Perhaps the most disappointing effort of the round came at Beazley Reserve, where the home side were bundled out for a even hundred against the Spiders. Only three players making double figures was the defining stat. Carnegie continue to impress and have realistically secured a finals spot. Just who will join them in the Elimination Final remains to be seen and is anyone’s guess.

Round 9 Preview

Mackie over The Golfers just (As harsh as it sounds for a team currently in the four, I doubt Kingston Heath will win another game this season. Certainly this match of the round clash at Southern Rd is their last chance with fixtures against the top 2 to finish, but perhaps this 4th placing flatters them somewhat. I am happy to be proven wrong, but the Machine are well oiled and cunning in games such as these and when the Park boys are firing they are very hard to beat, I do not expect a thrashing, but one has to select the proven performers).
Uniting over Le Page easily (The Panthers fortunes are eerily similar to the Golfers as they must play the top 2 over the final rounds. Don’t expect Lalor’s men to extend any favours towards their combatants and expect Tommy Backman to be in the runs).
Elwood over West just (Absolute flip of the coin, but Marshall Bunting simply loves flaying the Cowboys attack and a welcome return to form last round is the tonic he needs to post a really big score. He will need some help though and expect the Cowboys to fight this one right out as they seek for atonement after their embarrassing effort at the Beach last year).
ESBC over Carn Sth Just (I cannot bring myself to pick against East Sandy, but I feel they may drop this one if they are not at their best. The Spiders have had many contributors this season and Gihan Perera is due for some runs. Guy Martin has led from the front in recent times and may need to do so again for the Juggies to salute).
Union over ANA easily (The Hoops are suddenly more than just outsiders to sneak into the four. In reality they will most likely need Mackie to slip up, but with games against West and Chelsea to follow, they will expect to win all three. Unfortunately, Sport does not always follow an expected course and the Royals will be looking for a better showing after last week’s effort at West. Con Pothitos to score big for the visitors).
Centrals over Chelsea just (The loser of this one may well be relegated and I for one see precious little between the two teams. Hampton’s form has been far better of late though and on this basis I will select them with much trepidation. Steve May has taken 16 wickets at less than 15 apiece since his return in round 4 and he may prove the difference again).

Good luck to all

As a prelude to the Under 21 Wright Shield final being held tomorrow, here is the last victorious CMCA 1995/1996 team that managed to obtain a premiership medal in what appears to be controversial circumstances. It would be great to have a precise of the match. It looks like would have been an ‘interesting’ encounter.

It is difficult to conceive that 16 years have passed since this feat was accomplished. There are probably a few players who cannot remember playing in the match!

Has the Executive ever organized a reunion of sorts for the premiership/Grand final teams? It would certainly be a good night with some interesting stories and a great way to commemorate the participants. At the very least if someone could pen the history into the CMCA website of not only the premiership teams but the runners up it would serve as a history that could be looked back upon rather than just fade away. Any way all the best to the Under 21’s tomorrow and let’s hope the rain stays away.
