3rd Test SA v Eng- Simon Jones???

Does anyone think it possible for Simon Jones to play in the 3rd Test?

I'd say that an attack with Sidebottom, Jones, Flintoff & Anderson would be as good as any in current world cricket..

He is averaging 16 with the ball in County cricket at the moment but the selectors seem to be holding him back for the ashes..

I am sure he would rather be playing for England as often as he can..

I reckon he is a potentially GREAT test bowler.. he was the sharp edge that helped win the 2005 ashes.. in my opinion the greatest test series ever played..

The issue at hand is that Jones has never been able to bowl long spells, not even in 2005 and so is most effective as part of a five man attack. This means that Monty must play and either Ambrose or Flintoff should go six, which is one place too high for both.

I think Jones should play as part of a five man attack with Prior replacing Ambrose to give the batting a bit more stability. The other option is to have Colly come in and only have 3 specialist seam bowlers, in which case Jones might miss out.

I thought the only reason he hasent been picked is because
hes not fit enough... He can only bowl about 20 overs a game at the moment
and england need more than that

i'm a big simon jones supporter but unfortunately he definitely won't be playing in this test series, as he failed his fitness test for even the last worcestershire game

I have more faith.. fully fit and in form I'd say that he is the best fast bowler in the world.. I loved watching him demolish the Aussie middle order in the 2005 series.. gold.

BBC says he was rested.

And cricinfo said he was rested with a view to playing in the test match, so he wouldn't be too tired out. Unfortunately that won't happen as Harmy's got the nod instead.

Wrong move bringing Harmison back. A lot of his wickets have come in gluts, rather than consistently spread out. He'll do no better than Pattison.

I'm afraid I agree tbh, Jones would've been a better choice, even if just for the reverse swing aspect.
