4th ODI: South Africa vs India at Port Elizabeth

South Africa heads into this game with some fine form. They've dominated India so far in this series and lead 2-0 with two games remaining. Kallis, Kemp, Hall and Pollock have thrashed the Indians in this 5-game series and with two games to go, India must win both to square the series. In contrast, to South Africa, India have been abysmal. Knocked over for less than 200 in both matches played so far, they have some series problems in the batting department with most batsmen failing to score any runs with the exception of Dravid and Dhoni in the last game. Sehwag, who will captain the side in this game with the injured Dravid not playing, is in poor form and with Yuvraj Singh also not playing, the Indian's batting looks to be rather depleted.

They will be pleased with the return of Zaheer Khan to the side, with his great bowling in game three of the series. He troubled South Africa's top order and should definitely retain his place. Sreesanth is expected to replace Agit Agarkar.

South Africa look bulletproof at the moment but India will be out to rectify that and even with a rather depleted side, they will be determined to win this fourth game and have a shot at tying the series.

Get set for a great game.

Re: 4th ODI: South Africa vs India at Port Elizabeth

Sehwag's form (or rather lack of it) doesn't make him deserving to be a captain in the current situation. But such is the sad state of Indian team right now. What more can I say? I don't have too many high hopes from India. :(

Re: 4th ODI: South Africa vs India at Port Elizabeth

The Indian cricket team is going through its worst phase in recent times. Drubbings in Malaysia, the ICC champions trophy and now the shameful losses in South Africa. And making a comeback against the meticulous South Africans is going to be a gigantic task.

Chappell under fire: The second consecutive drubbing that the Indian team received at the hands of South Africa in Durban has enraged the Indian fans and political leaders. The Indian parliament is in uproar and mobs are burning Chappell effigies in the streets. India desperately need a win to control the home uproar. The protesters also set afire a large sized poster, which was a collage of photographs of the Indian team currently touring South Africa.

India team changes: Indian captain Rahul Dravid will miss the remaining matches of the one-day international series against South Africa after injuring a finger during the third international in Cape Town Sunday. VVS Laxman will replace Dravid but Nair said he was not sure when Laxman would arrive. Dravid will remain in South Africa for treatment and it is hoped he will be fit for a three-match Test series which starts December 15. The Indian captain suffered a fracture to the middle finger of his right hand when he dropped a hard chance from Shaun Pollock off Harbhajan Singh while fielding at slip Sunday. Virender Sehwag will take over the captaincy after himself missing the first two matches of the tour because of a finger injury.

South Africa team changes: Ashwell Prince will replace Boeta Dippenaar as the only change to the Standard Bank ODI Squad for the remaining two MTN ODIs against India in Port Elizabeth on Wednesday and Centurion on Sunday. The change was announced today by convenor of selectors, Haroon Lorgat, who said: "We have brought Ashwell Prince back into the Standard Bank ODI Squad to give us experienced options should we wish to change our top order batting".

Re: 4th ODI: South Africa vs India at Port Elizabeth

South Africa reached 8/243 off their 50 overs. Herschelle Gibbs reached 93 not out and deserved a century. Kallis made 49 with Pollock chipping in with 37.

South Africa will be worried with their opening pair, Smith and Bosman both out for ducks with Smith once again out LBW.

Kumble finished with 2/42 for the Indians. Khan, Sreesanth, Tendulkar and Sehwag all picking up one wicket each.

It is all up to India now. Will the batsmen be able to gel and get the runs required or will they fail again?

Re: 4th ODI: South Africa vs India at Port Elizabeth

South Africa have done well to reach a total of 243 and going by the performance of the Indian team on the tour so far, this certainly is a winning total. But all days are not the same and as the cliche goes, anything is possible in this funny ole game. Will the Indian team be able to deliver the goods this time with a changed top order??? This seriously is a cause of concern, one of the two is going through the worst patch of his life and the other one is coming back after scoring a duck on debut. To add to it, technically speaking, India just has four specialist batsmen and three out of them are not in form, then the two wicket keeper batsmen, all rounders and the tail.

Re: 4th ODI: South Africa vs India at Port Elizabeth

5.4 Ntini to Jaffer, out Caught by Smith!! Good length delivery on the off, Jaffer goes on the backfoot and looks to drive on the up, gets an edge and Smith takes a very good catch at 1st slip, that must have hurt both team India and Smith's fingers W Jaffer c G Smith b M Ntini 10(20) 4s-2 6s-0

Re: 4th ODI: South Africa vs India at Port Elizabeth

6.2 Pollock to Tendulkar, out Caught by Boucher!! Good length delivery on the off, seaming away again, Tendulkar looks to defend, changes his mind late to let it go but the ball finds the edge and Boucher takes a easy catch to dismiss the maestro S Tendulkar c M Boucher b S Pollock 1(3) 4s-0 6s-0

Re: 4th ODI: South Africa vs India at Port Elizabeth

9.3 Ntini to Sehwag, out Caught by Bosman!! Full delivery on the middle and leg, Sehwag shuffles across and flicks it in the air, Bosman at mid wicket dives full length to his right and takes a blinder V Sehwag c L Bosman b M Ntini 18(22) 4s-3 6s-0

Re: 4th ODI: South Africa vs India at Port Elizabeth

Pollock to Dinesh Karthik, out Kaif Run Out!! Mahendra Singh Dhoni is the new batsman in

Re: 4th ODI: South Africa vs India at Port Elizabeth

Dhoni out for 26, looks like India is all set to wrap up yet another loss here.

They're 83-5 after 20 overs.
India still needs 161 runs in the last 30 overs, but with 5 wickets already down, it doesn't seem very likely.

Re: 4th ODI: South Africa vs India at Port Elizabeth

Kemp to Karthik, OUT, Slices to his demise. Full and outside the offstump and rather than crashing it through covers, Karthik ends up slicing his drive, in the air, to thirdman. Another one is down, four to go.
KD Karthik c Nel b Kemp 17 (74m 38b 2x4 0x6) SR: 44.73

Re: 4th ODI: South Africa vs India at Port Elizabeth

Message to Indian team: Stay out of India. Preferably in South Africa or West Indies until you learn how to bat.

You're not welcome in India anymore. And strip them of those big-paying media contracts. Bunch of overpaid, over-hyped no-gooders with no backbone.

Re: 4th ODI: South Africa vs India at Port Elizabeth

Yet another pitiful thumping.

India should be playing in the tri-series with Bermuda, Canada, and Netherlands, not with South Africa.

Re: 4th ODI: South Africa vs India at Port Elizabeth

India won one match against England in Champions Trophy.

I think they won one match against West Indies in the DLF Cup in Malaysia, if I remember it right.

This from a team with the biggest cricket budget in the world, and where biggest cricket media rights are sold (there was a monster corporate acquisition recently with Zee Sports buying Ten Sports and cricket rights being the basis for it), and players win biggest sponsorship endorsments.

This Indian team is in such atrocious shambles, all those media rights and sponsorships will start drying out if this doesn't stop. I mean, if people are furious or start losing interest and switch off TVs, advertisers won't pay during match telecasts, correct?

I've an inkling Greg Chappell will have to go after this debacle. Unlike a top nation like Australia, the youth conveyor belt for India is nowhere close to quality. Newcomers like Munaf Patel, Dinesh Karthik, Wasim Jaffer have flashes of talent, but nowhere close to world class and just not being groomed properly. They found good talent in Dhoni, but the media over-hyped him so much at young age, it's an unreasonable burden on his shoulders. I mean, for one single Dhoni that India has got, Australia has got 20 Dhonis (perhaps better) waiting in the wings in their youth development ranks.

There is clearly a huge mismatch between quality of output on the field and the amount of sponsorship money. Veterans like Sehwag are the worst culprits. I was thinking that Sehwag should have been dropped with his indifferent form a long time ago, maybe after Malaysian tournament. But they stuck with him the whole time, and that borders on criminal.

There has got to be a massive post-mortem now back in India, and letting Chappell go maybe an emotional by-product of it. (Whether that's a correct solution or not, I have no idea right now. I have a feeling it is, as he doesn't seem to be instilling confidence in these youngsters or even Dravid as a captain.) Whatever it is, iI'm pretty sure the World Cup is a foregone conclusion for India at this point.

Re: 4th ODI: South Africa vs India at Port Elizabeth

Another point I didn't mention is some of the fielding from India in this series has been horrendously stinkingly bad. South African fielding for the most part has been top notch. I don't think India has even got good coaching for fielding going on right now.
