Australia announce squad for Chappell-Hadlee series in New Zealand
Michael Hussey will lead Australia in the 3-match Chappell-Hadlee series to be held in New Zealand after the commencement of the Commonwealth Bank Series.
Hussey has lead Australia once before and scored 109 not out in a loss to West Indies in the DLF Cup last year. Michael Clarke has been named vice-captain.
Ricky Ponting has been given the tour off as a result of a sore back which he has had for a number of years. Adam Gilchrist was rested purely because of his heavy workload over the last few months and selectors decided he needed a rest and a chance to recharge before the World Cup. Brad Haddin will take his place.
In a surprise call-up, Western Australian young-gun Adam Voges will travel over to New Zealand as part of the 13-man squad. Voges was also in the 13-man squad for the 3rd Ashes test in Perth.
Squad
Michael Hussey*, Matthew Hayden, Shane Watson, Michael Clarke, Brad Hodge, Adam Voges, Brad Haddin+, Cameron White, Brad Hogg, Brett Lee, Mitchell Johnson, Nathan Bracken, Glenn McGrath.
