BCCI warns Sehwag about recent Comments

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) issued a warning to Virender Sehwag after his recent comments to the media about player burnouts and Sourav Ganguly.

"Sehwag has been warned verbally from speaking to the media on burnout and the Ganguly issue. Players cannot speak on board policies and selection matters," Niranjan Shah, the BCCI secretary told reporters. "If any player feels there is burnout, he can take rest. The board cannot change its policy or itinerary for any player.

"Players cannot speak on Ganguly issue also. It is a matter which concerns the selection committee. As a player you cannot give your opinion on any other player."

Sehwag, in a recent interview to PTI, said that the team often missed Ganguly's presence in the side, even as he conceded that it is the prerogative of the board and the selectors to decide on the former captain's future.

On the topic of player burnout, Sehwag stated that the matter was raised by Rahul Dravid, the Indian captain, with Sharad Pawar, the BCCI president, during the tour of Pakistan earlier this year. The board promised to address the issue after India completed its formalities this season, which includes a full tour of the West Indies.

"The board meets players from time to time", Shah added. "If they have any problem, they can take it up with us. These matters must remain between us."

The BCCI has been firm on its gag order on Indian players speaking on sensitive topics, which began during the Ganguly-Greg Chappell spat last September. Harbhajan Singh was the first player to voice his opinion on the issue, speaking out in support of Ganguly, following which the board took swift action. The board also imposed restrictions on the players regarding writing columns for newspapers and other publications - only the captain, coach and manager have permission to do so.

I think this isnt fair...all players should be able to express their concern no matter what it is.

There is deep politics going on, and I don't think anybody outside the team and the management know what is happening regarding Saurav, not even Chappel.

thats another problem with circket and the indian media. A simple comment like " we miss sourav" should not be blown out of proportion. Freedom of speech and action. Civil rights baby

As long as Sehwag was not trying to rally the media against the BCCI he can say what he wants
