Champions Trophy - Pakistan vs South Africa at Chandigarh

Pretty simple outcome here. The winner will play in the semi-finals, the loser is out. A lot to play for in this game, both teams will be very keen to continue into the latter stages of the tournament. Pakistan have played alright so far with a few of their higher-profile players out of the tournament. South Africa have looked scratchy and this game will certainly test them out.

With both team having a lot to play for, this game is set to be a close one.

Re: Champions Trophy - Pakistan vs South Africa at Chandigarh

Its a crunch match between Pakistan and South Africa today at the champions Trophy. A do-or-die match for both the teams. The winner will join New Zealand and West Indies in the semis while the loser will have to pack their bags and head home

Re: Champions Trophy - Pakistan vs South Africa at Chandigarh

The weather is hot and bright at PCA Stadium in Mohali. The Dew is going to be in the player's minds'. The pitch is hard and flat and looks good for batting. The pacers should extract some bounce from this pitch like seen from the previous game.

Re: Champions Trophy - Pakistan vs South Africa at Chandigarh

South African skipper Graeme Smith and Boeta Dippenaar have come out to open the innings for South Africa .

Umar Gul to open the bowling attack for Pakistan

Re: Champions Trophy - Pakistan vs South Africa at Chandigarh

OUT - The ball's struck Graeme Smith right in front off the stumps. A huge appeal by the fielders. Umpire Benson raises his dreaded finger.Smith departs for a duck...Not the kind of start he expected after winning the toss and choosing to bat.

Re: Champions Trophy - Pakistan vs South Africa at Chandigarh

Herschelle Gibbs replaces his skipper at the crease

Re: Champions Trophy - Pakistan vs South Africa at Chandigarh

OUT - Edge! Straight to Shoaib Malik at first slip who makes no mistake with the catch. First ball duck for Gibbs. What a start for Gul and Pakistan...

Jacques Kallis comes to the crease much much earlier than he expected.

Re: Champions Trophy - Pakistan vs South Africa at Chandigarh

OUT - Dippenaar has edged this ball. Pak keeper Kamran Akmal dives to his right and takes a brilliant one handed catch.Iftikar Anjum gets his first wicket.

RSA 27-3

Re: Champions Trophy - Pakistan vs South Africa at Chandigarh

OUT - Kallis goes after a wide one. The balls taken the outside edge of his bat.Kamran Akmal collects it comfortably behind the stumps. That's a big wicket for Pakistan. Great bowling by Anjum

Re: Champions Trophy - Pakistan vs South Africa at Chandigarh

Mark Boucher comes to bat at the fall of the fourth wicket and with just 36 on the board

Re: Champions Trophy - Pakistan vs South Africa at Chandigarh

OUT - AB de Villiers has edged this full and swinging ball from Arafat.Kamran Akmal takes his third catch behind the wickets. Mark Benson raises his finger .South African have lost their fifth wicket with just 42 on the board.

Justin Kemp comes to bat in the 13th over itself with the half of the South African batsmen already back in the pavillion...

Re: Champions Trophy - Pakistan vs South Africa at Chandigarh

Well, from 42-5, Boucher and Kemp have put together an extremely vital 75 run partnership. They've taken South Africa up to 117-5 after 32 overs.

Re: Champions Trophy - Pakistan vs South Africa at Chandigarh

SA
119 (5 wickets; 32.4 overs)

MV Boucher= not out====41 63
JM Kemp ===not out====25 59

Re: Champions Trophy - Pakistan vs South Africa at Chandigarh

178-6 after 45

Boucher was out for 69, and Kemp has just reached his half cenury. Their partnership lasted 31.1 overs, and was good for 131 runs.

Re: Champions Trophy - Pakistan vs South Africa at Chandigarh

Hafeez has been very economical today, and they're letting him bowl at the end here
and it just paid off, he got Pollock to fly out to Rao

182-7 after 46.2

Re: Champions Trophy - Pakistan vs South Africa at Chandigarh

South Africa finish 213-8, so Pakistan will be chasing a target of 214, which won't be easy. Hafeez bowled 8 overs and gave up only 23 runs. Gul came on and picked up a third wicket in the final over.

Re: Champions Trophy - Pakistan vs South Africa at Chandigarh

What a demolition!
Pakistan is 47-7 after 14 overs!

Ntini has taken 5 wickets so far, Pollock took the other two.

Re: Champions Trophy - Pakistan vs South Africa at Chandigarh

47-8 now, in just 15 overs. This is an absolute dismantling, let by Ntini who already has 5 wickets. Wonder why the captain pulled him out of the attack. It could have been over by now.

Re: Champions Trophy - Pakistan vs South Africa at Chandigarh

I should probably wait for the official standings, but assuming that this is over soon, I'm pretty sure that South Africa will wind up with a superior NRR to New Zealand thanks to today's demolition. So South Africa will win the group, and New Zealand will finish second.
