Group C - England v New Zealand

This is the game of the group of course. If both teams progress to the next round, this will count in the Super 8 standings, so both teams will try their best to win.

Like the other game, this one was also delayed due to earlier rain, but it's due to get underway in 5 minutes, just 30 minutes late.

New Zealand won the toss and will bowl first today.

Re: Group C - England v New Zealand

first delivery - no ball
England 1-0 after 0.0

second delivery - Joyce edges it to McCullum
England 1-1 after 0.1

Franklin strikes early!

What a superb start for New Zealand!!!

Re: Group C - England v New Zealand

A sign of things to come, great start for New Zealand. Not good for Joyce getting out early.

Re: Group C - England v New Zealand

And now Oram gets Bell to edge it to the keeper

England 30-2 after 8.5 overs

Re: Group C - England v New Zealand

Bowled him!
Franklin gets Vaughan

52-3 after 15.3

Vaughan should have been run out when the score was 33-2, so they only managed an extra 19 runs from this partnership.

The announcers keep talking about whether 240 or 250 would be a good score for England today. I don't know what game they're watching, but I'd be pretty shocked if England even got to 200 today. This clearly isn't a good pitch to bat on.

Re: Group C - England v New Zealand

70-3 after 20

England going along pretty slowly here, and I doubt they'll pick up the pace too much when Vettori and Patel get involved.

Re: Group C - England v New Zealand

Styris gets Collingwood and this partnership is finally broken.

133-4 after 35

Re: Group C - England v New Zealand

Fleming brings Bond back in to strike while the iron is hot, and it works!
He gets Pietersen with the third delivery of the over.

England now 133-5

Re: Group C - England v New Zealand

Bond gets Flintoff too!!!!!
What a brilliant decision to bring him back in now.

England 134-6 after 36.

After that nice partnership from Pietersen and Collingwood, it looked like they'd be able to get to 200 after all. Not so much any more though. Their tail has some weak batting, and New Zealand will look to finish them off.

Re: Group C - England v New Zealand

Styris gets Dalrymple

England 138-7 after 38.2

200 looks out of the question now.

Re: Group C - England v New Zealand

Good finishing partnership from Nixon and Plunkett took England to 209-7. That's a bit more than I was expecting. Could be an entertaining chase now.

Re: Group C - England v New Zealand

That was a big scare for a moment, thought England would be all out for less than 200. It will be an interesting chase for sure. Now the England bowlers have to do their thing. Let's go England!

Re: Group C - England v New Zealand

After losing Vincent, Fleming, and Taylor early, Styris and McMillan are steadying the ship. New Zealand is 55-3 after 12 overs. When the third wicket fell, it was 19-3, so this is an important partnership.

The required rate is only 4 runs per over, so these guys just need to hang on and see New Zealand on towards the end.

Re: Group C - England v New Zealand

NZ 72-3 after 15

The required rate is under 4 per over.
After their 15 overs, England was 52-2. They finally reached 72-3 after 21 overs. If Styris and McMillan can hang on for a bit here, the Kiwis will be in good shape to pick up a win.

Re: Group C - England v New Zealand

Panesar strikes in his first over!!
McMillan took a pointless and unnecessary swing.

NZ now 72-4

Re: Group C - England v New Zealand

Good partnership from Oram and Styris.

New Zealand is 143-4 after 29. They've added 71 runs from this partnership so far.

Kiwis need 67 runs from the last 21 overs. The required rate is only about 3 an over. It would be a bit of a shock if New Zealand lost from here. With a number of wickets remaining, and the RRR well in hand, there's no need to risk losing a wicket. Just play it safe and take it home.

Re: Group C - England v New Zealand

New Zealand emerges victorious.

Pathetic fielding from England, and Vaughn couldn't cope with the pressure.
