Group D - West Indies v Zimbabwe

If it feels like it's been a while since we've seen the West Indies, that's because it has been. A few teams have played 2 games since West Indies opened the tournament. And the two games we've seen in this group have both been absolute thrillers, thanks to the Irish.

No doubt, the Windies watched both games, and will hopefully have woken up to the fact that this tournament is for real, and if you let your guard down, you can be beaten.

Zimbabwe looked pretty demoralized after their failure to secure the win against Ireland. They're really going to have to pick themselves up and perform to the very best of their ability if they are to have any chance against the West Indies today.

Hopefully chris gale bats for a while. I love watching him bat when he gets going. One of the best straight hitters going around.

Re: Group D - West Indies v Zimbabwe

Big trouble for Zimbabwe here, they're 32-3 after 10 overs.

Re: Group D - West Indies v Zimbabwe

Dwayne Smith eliminates the dangerous Matsikenyeri

59-4 after 17.3

Re: Group D - West Indies v Zimbabwe

Good partnership here between Williams and Taylor for Zimbabwe.

102-4 after 30

Re: Group D - West Indies v Zimbabwe

Taylor run out for 50. That partnership was good for 83 runs.

Zimbabwe is 145-5 after 42.
West Indies should be able to keep them below 200 here.

I guess they didn't. Zimbabwe finish on 202/5

Re: Group D - West Indies v Zimbabwe

A slow and cautious start for Gayle and Chanderpaul, 17-0 after 6 overs.

Re: Group D - West Indies v Zimbabwe

Gayle hit 3 huges sixes a few overs ago. He was aiming for roofs with those, and his aim was on target.

West Indies 71-0 after 16.

So far, so good. West Indies are 132 runs away from qualifying for the Super Eights.

Re: Group D - West Indies v Zimbabwe

Bad news! Gayle and Chanderpaul both gone.

West Indies 73-2 after 18.1 overs.

The required rate is well in hand though.

Re: Group D - West Indies v Zimbabwe

Samuels just lost his wicket.

West Indies 129-4 after 33 overs.

They need 74 from the last 17 overs, about 4 and a half per over.

Re: Group D - West Indies v Zimbabwe

Bravo is looking good.

West Indies 154-4 after 38

they need 49 runs from the last 12 overs.

Re: Group D - West Indies v Zimbabwe

West Indies win by 6 wickets, 204-4 after 47.5 overs.

They had a bit of a struggle today, but considering how the other games in the group have gone, they'll surely be happy to be the first team to officially qualify for the Super Eights.

I thought Australia were the first team to officially qualify?

Am I missing something? How is Australia qualified? Can't Scotland and South Africa both finish on 4 points too?
